I left the car at home so my wife could use it today and when she started it up it immediately showed that the ESP was off and the engine symbol stayed lit. It advised her to take it to the dealer.
It runs fine, and after looking at the owner's manual it suggests that we drive it for a couple of tank-fulls of gas to see if it clears up.
I did a search on the "other" site, but that search sucks. I decided to come to the place I probably should have started i the first place!
The engine symbol seems to be emissions, and I have no idea why the traction control won't go on. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Check the MAF sensor make sure the plug is fully plugged in. I had this same problem when I first got my car. Could be it. Probably not but worth checking.

The CEL, (check engine light) comes on whenever there's some kind of issue. It can be a gas cap not screwed on all the way. Did you have Onstar run a diagnostic? If you had a Dashhawk, there would be a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) stored. With that people here could tell you what the problem was.

Thanks for the tips, guys. This morning I put some air in the left front, it was down 2 pounds, and filled it up. The fill-up took care of the CEL, so it must have been the gas cap. The ESP still won't turn on. I had hoped that evening-out the tire pressures would have made it happy.
I don't have a Dashhawk, but would a trip to Auto Zone to have them plug in their diagnostic tool help any?
Thanks again.

Okay, the guy at AutoZone used an Actron unit and it came up with P0700 and P1825. He said it was the transmission controller and something else. Looks like the dealership is next.

Both are trans codes and they will reflash.

I called the dealership closest to work and they said it would take 2 hours for a diagnostic. All of this should be covered under warranty, right?
Thanks again for looking into this for me.

I suppose they might not be so understanding with your "massaged" G8? I'm not planning on going as far as you, Charlie or a few others, but there are some things that are going to get altered.
Thanks again guys!

Okay, got the car back and it drive's a little differently. Seems to need more throttle for gradual increases, liked that part better before the fix. Otherwise, it seems happier to spin the tires from a stop, even with the traction control on.
The code on the receipt is 08254, and they call it a recall. It says '"trans claim code 18DE2.
I had them check the trans fluid level while it was in, they said it was full, and it is noted that they had to remove the drain plug to check. That gives me a little more confidence that they actually checked it.
