Well made it back to the track, little disappointed that the car didn't run better, my fault for putting the wrong tires on. I used my winter tire/wheel package because they were 8lbs lighter then my 20's. However, they didn't hook very well and 1-2 shift it was spinning the shit out of them. Just not sticky enough. I'll correct that the next time out. Here are my runs. Temp were around 75 on the first two runs, maybe around 68-70 degrees on the final 3. 1364 ft above sea level, no idea what the da was.
1st run-13.36 @102.16 w/60ft 2.10 hit the rev limiter(3rd gear) 6200rpm
2nd run-13.39@103.64 w/60ft 2.10 hit the rev limiter (3rd gear) spinning 1-2 shift
Retuned and changed the torque shift from 150 to 100 % (SC)
3rd run-13.31@103.88 w/60ft 2.07 hit rev limiter (didn't spin as bad 1-2shift
4th run-13.32@102.41 w/60ft 2.09 hit rev limiter
5th run-13.37@104.65 w/60ft 2.11 actuall shifted to 4th (go figure)
Cool downs were about 45 minutes except the last run, we had to leave so I pulled right back to the starting line for run 5. All in all not to bad, I should have dropped my shift torque to maybe 50% so it wouldn't have spun the tires so hard in second gear. If I just could have duplicated my 1/8 mile times from a couple months ago it would have been in the 13.20's. These tire just didn't work out very well. I was a full 1/10th off my 1/8 mile times from the last time out. Well there it is, I'll have my headers on next time and retuned.

That is not to bad for your mods. A 13.2 would be excellent. Nice work. Which track were you at?

Ozark dragway in Rogersville, MO. It was just test and tune and no big event so they don't spend a lot of time on track prep. The starting line wasn't too bad, it was down track when it shifted to 2nd where it was spinning a bunch. I was one of the guys in the stands that came down and looked at our car after a couple of the runs, he couldn't believe I was spinning the tires that much in second gear. Of course he thought it was a gto, then he realized what it was and thought man thats a fast 4 door. I'll run better at the next test and tune with the headers and tune.

Nice runs. DRs would get you where you want to be. :)

I'll pick up another set of rear wheels and put a pair of Sumitomo HTR III's, thats what I have on my 20's and they are pretty sticky tire. I would have been better off just to leave the 20's on even though they are heavier. I may stop messing with this car, my wife doesn't want me to mess it up, so, I may buy a c5 and work on it with exhaust, nos and tune. Just can't make up my mind.

how/why do u keep hitting the rev limiter?

locrzn#92
08-24-2009, 10:23 AM
I have no idea, its running right at 6200 rpm's in the traps, you can feel it laying over about 100 ft from the end. Whats strange is that it shifted to 4 gear on my last pass, I've run it at least
25 times and its the first time thats happened. Its set up at SC values, however, I did notice it was shifting just a little early into second, but, right on time in third gear and on the limiter in third in the traps. I don't understand it. I did retune if down to 100%, I wish I'd went down to about 50% Shift Torque.

I use to hit the rev limiter every single time while holding 3rd with the mods you have. It occurred about 75-100' before the line.

Thats wierd ive never hit the limiter before the finish line holding 3rd.... The only time ive hit the rev limiter is when I set it to 150% or 125% not sure which. Only on the 2-3shift.

set all your settings at superchips value and you wont and also try 91 octane tune its quicker for some reason ive tried it 91 vs 93 and my times are 4tenths faster with 91 octane ....and if you dont believe me ask my buddy 09gtt cause i raced him with both the same night....on the streeet

Sounds like you got some gas that wasnt full 93 octane so it was probably knocking a bit with the 93.

I had a 91 tune in it when I ran, I was running a mix of 91-93 octane. If I get to go this Friday, I'm running it a 50% shift torque and my sticky tires. I'm gonna get in the teens before I put the headers on. Thats my goal and we'll see if I can make it happen. Its not knocking, it laying over at 6200 hitting the limiter. Its happened before and to others also. I don't know if its happened to other with the superchips, but, mine did it with a stock tune also only at a lower rpm. I think its doing it because it shifting at a slightly lower rpm from 1-2 and with it spinning the tires really hard on the shift the R's are getting there much quicker. I'm still happy, lots of guys can't break out of the 14's, some don't run any faster then mine with a dyno tune. So, its all good. I think I'm going to buy another race/street car and quit messing with this one, I may never get back into the 9's like my 68 nova drag car, but, I'm heading for the 10's by next spring. Maybe a Ls2 vette with some Power adders or Camaro, etc. I've also got an Ls2 in my garage just ready for a stroker kit and big HP. My wife loves this car too much to mess it up. There are a lot of race/street cars out there right now forsale and I'm gonna go that route again. So, when the headers get installed I get a tune, thats it.

is it best to try and stay in 3rd gear at the track?

The car has always stayed in third except the very last pass and it ran a higher mph then it had ever run before. Make sense if its hitting the limiter that if it goes ahead and shifts it won't loose mph, thats what it did. The only reason it probably slowed down 5/100's is that I went straight back to the starting line as I had to drive back to the lake that evening. Mine lost just a few hundreths when I went to 93 octane a couple months back. I'm planning on going this Friday again and trying the 93 tune again. I know its not gonna run any faster, but, before gas goes up again I'll throw in a full tank of 93. Gotha fiveoh

you will hit the rev limiter sooner in 3rd if you are spinning 2nd. I have noticed this several times. Also noticed premature shifts into 3rd when in Normal mode due to spinning. Unfortunately Sport mode has much less TM, so while it avoids the early shift, it hits harder and tends to spin 2nd longer. Needs DRs. I would avoid the handheld tuners, as the net result is no timeslips :)

If your someone who is doing intake/exhaust (not headers) only then a handheld is great. I have yet to see anyone on the forums trapping more than me with custom tunes. Then again there are not many who have only intake. lol

Nice trap speed. I'm going back Friday with my other tires. They won't spin like last weekend. I have to wait to see if the rain moves in. My handheld works very well for what I need. I cancelled my headers and am buying a car to race again. It will be an LSX motor in something, I'm going to look at a car Friday.

nice trap speed chicagog8gt if you do exhaust you will be in the 12's with that kind of speed...i promise and you will beat people who have custom tunes and headers all day long......

Or not becuase superchips doesnt have tunes for headers.

Also there are people on here with above that trap speed with intake and tune, Atlas is one that I know off hand, Blackbirdws06 is another. That being said it is very good for your mods. Quick car you got there.

locrzn: What kind of car are you looking at? I cant make up my mind if I want to buy headers or spend my $$$ on my stang so its just sitting there until I decide.

I'm going to look at a modded 2000 ws6, it runs mid 11's on the motor. He has nos but hasn't run it at the track. He's been out of work for a while and needs to move it. I'd love to have another 78-83 malibu (wagon) with an lsx set up in it. I had a 79 mailbu prostreet back in the day with a 383 stroker. I have an ls2 on the engine stand in my garage and if I can find a roller that I like then I'll finish that motor up. I may do a stroker kit or maybe just a 60 over flat top. I've already freshened the head with big springs. If I find something I like I'll just buy it and lay off the g8 and just maybe someday I'll mod it just a little more.

Didn't get to go this evening, drissling and foggy. Whats up with this crazy weather. Its only 70 degrees today, but, cloudy and crappy. Maybe next Friday I'll have a return match with Ozark Dragway. I want to at least get in the 13.20's, hopefully the teens before I buy something else.
