Unfortunately unlike alot of people on here my G8 isn't my weekend car it's my daily driver I'm have second thoughts on going with any heavy mods because of fuel economy. Are there any guys on here using this car as a daily driver that are heavily modded? any fuel economy issues? I'm talking drastic, not 1-2mpg loss. I've love to make it faster and add all the goodies but i don't want to turn it into a impractical daily driver. Any recommendations on basic mods that won;t hurt fuel economy? I already have aftermarket exhaust, i'm thinking cai and headers. Thanks!

My car is a daily driver. I wouldn't consider my mods heavy yet. I'm not a good one to ask about fuel economy. My mileage sucked from the get go because I have no control over my right foot. It seems to be stuck in the down position! :D
Cold air intake tune and headers can, at worst, keep your mileage similar and give you more power. The trick is not flooring it and enjoying the new power.

+1 if your car breathes better it performs better. Mine is not a DD(even though it has 10k on it in 6.5 months)

In 16 months I've almost reached 30k in mileage. Weekdays I drive mostly highways but on the weekends I roughhouse her, I'm averaging 20 mpgs and my car really performs after mods.

Basic mods and a good tune will increase MPGs. However if you have your foot in it all the time it will drop. In most cases you see a slight decline after every mod (having too much fun) and then you see the increase(you have had your fun and now are waiting on the next mod). :)

FYI. As modded as my car is it still gets 22.0 cruising at 65.

I feel my mods have made my car more of a friendly daily driver... Im in the same shoes as you though when im thinking converter and cam...

Keep the AFM and the stock converter. Mod the hell out of everything else. Your gas mileage will be better than it was stock.

I'm cammed with the stock converter for NOW anyways LOL

I got 23mpg+ average on my way back from michigan to TN. Before my car only got 24mpg so I dropped 1 mpg highway thats at 75-80 for most of the trip.

In town I dropped maybe 1-2 mpg. This is all IF I keep my foot out of it which is not as much as I should LOL

My average before city and highway mixed was 19

Now its around 17. Keep in mind I get stuck in traffic in the morning and afternoon which kills my mileage.

Still its about a 1-2 mpg drop.

When I'm driving it like I stole it which is a lot I get more like 15mpg average.

IF you can keep your foot out of it (although I don't see the point in mods if you do) you will see a slight decrease.

Right now I average a little better the my z71 tahoe LOL Granted I don't have nearly the fun in the tahoe :)

Untuned, with just CAI I've seen a slight increase in MPG, but once tuned it should go up about 1-2 more.

I think you can go 1 3/4 long tube headers, CAI and tune and should go up. I would still do a 258mm 2800 stall and you will really have fun. Remember, the converter locks up so you shouldn't notice almost any difference in MPG. IF you keep your foot out of it. Even a mild cam and lighter lifters will benefit you.

I get 16 average since I got my car... Why does it constantly think I stole it ? ;)

After I put my CAI on last week, it dropped to 14.5. But I babied it on the freeway and set the cruise at 65, it got 27 then. As soon as I started driving again it was at 16 in no time.

Prior to getting stuck in Korea the 1st of Aug., with the mods in my sig. I was pulling 16MPG city at 30MPH (Base speed limit, and only living 3.2 miles from work) which is what I drive almost all the time. On the Hwy for vacation over 600 miles I was getting 25.6 (doing the math not listening to the DIC). So it's very possible to get good mileage with a pretty quick car. I ran 12.8's in San Antonio, TX heat and humidity.

I use mine as a DD as well. I knew that it wasn't going to get great mileage but got it anyway. Honestly, I only get slightly worse than my last car (2003 Infiniti QX-4). But, I have a whole lot more fun.

If you are worried about the mileage, just be easy on the gas. Be smooth whenver possible.

But, doing a few mods won't make much difference in the mileage.
