UPDATED February 14, 2016

It's hard to believe that I started tracking all of this all the way back in 2009! I thought the list was completed in November of 2014, but a recent discrepancy popped up. We discovered first 1 GXP that wasn't on the list, and then 2 more. These were VERY early built cars. Originally we thought that the very first Pontiac G8 GXP was built on 8/06/2008. That wasn't correct, it turns out that 3 were built on 5/26/2008. One of those cars was scrapped by GM on 6/23/2009, so it never had an owner. This discovery will change the statistics for some of the early production cars. If you were already in contact with me prior to 2/14/16 and were told your overall production number, there will be a minor change. If your car was between #1 and #24, you need to add 3 to correct your production number. If your car was between #26 and #28, you need to add 2 to correct your production number. If your car was between #30 and #45, you need to add 1 to correct your production number. People with a production number over 47 are NOT AFFECTED. If your car is one of the following combos, you will also notice some slight adjustments:
MSM, M6, Sunroof, Onyx
PSM, A6, No Sunroof, Onyx
PBM, M6, Sunroof, Onyx/Red
MSM, A6, No Sunroof, Onyx/Red
PSM, M6, No Sunroof, Onyx
PBM, M6, No Sunroof, Onyx
The current information is based on 1,829 GXPs verified, which is 100% of overall production of 1,829, FINALLY! First I need to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Greg from PacePerformance. I couldn't have gotten this far without his help! THANK YOU! The list includes 9 GXPs converted to GXP Firehawks by SLP (we originally thought there were 10 but the GXP Firehawk pilot car started life as a GT based on it's VIN). I am pleased that final numbers come pretty close to my early projections. I am also happy that we can now prove that there were more automatic GXPs built than manuals, as I and a number of others strongly suspected. Car & Driver stated that only about 800 manual transmission GXPs were produced, which means about 44%, and they were pretty darn close (I show 846 at this point for 46.25%). So here is the complete data (I will make bold the few combos that have changed from November 2014 to February 2016:

Sunroof equipped 1,466 (80.15%)
No Sunroof 363 (19.85%)

Onyx Interior 1,255 (68.62%)
Onyx/Red Interior 574 (31.38%)

Automatic 983 (53.75%)
Manual 846 (46.25%)

Bridgestone Potenza Tires 1087 (59.43%)
Goodyear RS-A Tires 741 (40.51%)
Unknown 1 (.06%)

The color breakdown is as follows:

PBM 470 (99.78% of the total 471 built)
LR 377 (100% of the total 377 built)
MSM 333 (99.71% of the total 334 built)
WH 299 (100% of the total 299 built)
SRM 171 (101.18% of the total 169 built*) *This requires some explanation. Early reliable reports stated
MGM 78 (100% of the total 78 built) 169 SRM GXPs, but we have 171 confirmed VINs.
SBM 56 (100% of the total 56 built)
PSM 45 (100% of the total 45 built)

And consider it "stuck". :D

I am an admitted "numbers junky." I am a bank manager and I am crazy about tracking stats (which really helps me in bracket racing!). I started tracking GXPs when I got close to buying mine, primarily for my own curiosity. Then when people started asking questions about "how many this?" or "how many that?" I would answer based on my tracking. As the list got bigger, the data became more useful. Until official numbers come out (and I'm told that folks are hard at work at that as we speak), I will keep tracking, updating, and posting the data. Hopefully others find it at least interesting, if not helpful.

I have reached 300 GXPs verified, and I just updated the stats at the top of this thread. I will try to get in and type up how many of all 48 option combinations there are soon. Please keep the data coming so the list will grow!

I can't remember if you have a sunroof or not. If you do, I would say you will be about 1 of 50 to 85 (projection based on current count). If you don't have a sunroof, it will be more like 1 of 15 to 25.

Right now the most common combination by far is MSM M6 Roof Onyx. I have 23 of them verified out of 300 cars. Maybe this weekend I will have time to type up the overall count on all 48 combinations.

Leave it to my impatient ass to pick the most popular one. I wish I would have had the patience to wait for a gray GXP. I saw one in person and I think it looks a little better than the silver.

Thanks Chris, I've got your car on the list already (Robert gave me the scoop on it that night I met him at Quaker Steak & Lube). You got my favorite color! The longer I live with White Hot, the more I like it though. Thank you very much for the work you did to get the '09 color breakdown, and for the work to get the final breakouts. I am curious how far it will be broken down though. Is the tracking I am doing a total waste of time, or will it have useful information beyond what you will get? I'm all for getting people the information, but there is no sense having multiple people duplicating efforts. Please let me know.

Thank you!

I will keep gathering data as I am then, and see what we come up with. I have a large enough sampling now that I think all of the percentages are pretty accurate for interior color and sunroof status, but transmission breakdown is still a bit confusing. I am convinced that there are more automatics than manuals based on what I saw in my inventory searches. This hunch isn't being confirmed by the cars that I have verified that have been purchased though. I guess I'll have to wait and see what you find out. I would be happy to assist if possible when it comes to going thru the raw data, if you need any help. Just let me know.

Post #1 is now updated with 313 GXPs. The registry is now International since I have the first Canadian GXP on there. Apparently, a few GXPs went north of the border, and are being sold for huge markups. The GXP is rare enough here, but it will be REALLY rare in Canada!

I owe everyone a huge apology. I didn't realize how long it had been since I updated this list, wow! Stats in post #1 have now been updated. I have made some major changes since I last updated. I am now including cars that I find online or am told of, as long as I have the last 6 of their VIN. I am also asking that anyone who posts their stats for me to please at least PM the last 6 of their VIN. It doesn't sound like GM is going to authorize release of official stats anytime soon, so this may be all we get. I want to make it as accurate and dependable as possible. If any of you have lists with VINs and option combos from when you were searching for a GXP, I would really appreciate getting copies. I think If I pull together enough puzzle pieces, I can get a complete and accurate picture here. Thanks!

Juggernaut, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but finding an MGM M6 will be pretty tough. Since there were only 78 MGM GXPs built total, any MGM GXP won't be easy. My projections indicate that there were only about 12 MGM M6 Onyx No Sunroof cars built, and only about 33 MGM M6 Onyx Sunroof cars built total. Don't give up searching, but you may have to "settle" like I did. I refused to compromise on the manual transmission, and I preferred no sunroof, so that narrowed my search tremendously even when GXPs were still selling new. Good luck, and I'm glad the information is helpful!

I think you're right about compromising. Still trying to find any 6M (is it weird that I don't say M6 since that makes me think of BMWs?) that's GM Certified. :)

I figured mine was 1 of 4 or 5 built before I found another. 1 of 3 was close! I was originaly told there were 10, but I ran some VINs and never found 10.

Mine is the only early one built with the SBM/Manual/No Roof combo also AFAIK from checking at work.

Nice work.

Okay guys and gals... Proud new owner of a GXP (details in sig). Absolutely love the car! It came with the bolt ons already so as far as manufacturer of the headers and catback i am unsure. I know the CAI is a vararam though. Anyways, would love to contribute to the stats on the GXP's!

Getting the G8 GXP Registry website up-and-running (finally!) is going to be my winter project. I pulled together most of the VINs with contributions from other G8 Enthusiasts (from lists they compiled while shipping for a GXP), enthusiast sites, and online car sales sites. That got me about 40% of production. Then I pooled my resources with a Greg from PacePerformance who was able to access info that I couldn't. My approach was extremely labor-intensive, and likely would never have found every car. Greg helped complete the project, and I really appreciate his input!

I just needed to post that I had to make a minor adjustment to the information in Post #1. I discovered a discrepancy with the interior color of 1 of the GXPs on the list. One of my lists had this car with a onyx/red interior, but I was able to confirm with the owner that it is an onyx interior from the factory. This resulted in an adjustment for anyone that owns a LR A6 Sunroof GXP. There are actually 81 of them with an onyx interior (I had listed 80), and there are 78 of them with an onyx/red interior. If you have a LR A6 Onyx Sunroof GXP with a VIN below 9L300869, your sequence number is unaffected (there are 8 cars that are unaffected). Otherwise you need to add 1 to your sequence number. Drop me a PM if you have questions. If you have a LR A6 Onyx/Red Sunroof GXP with a VIN below 9L300882, your sequence number is unaffected (there are 9 cars that are unaffected). Otherwise you need to subtract 1 from your sequence number. Again, drop me a PM if you have questions.

This is the first discrepancy that I have found since completing the list, which isn't bad, but I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

It's update time folks! I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that I have now tracked down the owners of 507 GXPs (27.72% of total production), and I have the location state/province of 890 GXPs (48.66% of total production). I have now completed my thorough research on 322 GXPs (17.61% of total production). Based on this research, I have discovered a few interesting facts. Of the first 322 GXPs (by VIN order) only 2 were built with the All-Season RS-As. All the rest were summer-only Potenzas. I am still searching for the point in production where this may have changed. I have also now verified that at least 30 GXPs have snuck across our northern border into Canada. That is 24 more than the 6 that were originally shipped there by GM. I suspect that I am going to find more as I continue my search. Please be patient as I do this additional reseach, it is requiring a lot of typing and printing. I am going thru paper and ink cartridges like crazy, but this will be very helpful for posterity.

If you haven't dropped me a PM with the last 4 digits of your VIN, please do so, so I can make the registry as complete and accurate as possible. Thanks!

My more detailed research on the GXP is coming along slowly but surely. I have now completed 25% of all the GXPs built. That means 457 down, and ONLY 1372 to go! I have uncovered a few interesting details to share. In the first 457 GXPs built, only 2 were equipped with All-Season Radials (RP2 - Goodyear RS-As). All the rest had the Summer Only Performance tires (QCZ - Bridgestone Potenzas). In addition, I have uncovered 2 GXPs that were junked by GM early on. Not sure if these were damaged in transit from Australia, during transit in the US, or what. They are 9L304250 (LR, M6, Sunroof, Onyx/Red) and 9L303167 (LR, M6, Sunroof, Onyx). I now have evidence of 21 total GXPs that have been totaled or junked, and 1/3 of those are Liquid Red cars. More details to follow! Stay tuned, and keep your VINs coming by PM so I can complete the Registry as completely as possible!

Well folks, I have now completed my extensive research on 1/2 of all the GXPs ever produced. I wrapped up the 915th car tonight, and am taking a break to give you all this update. Here are some interesting things that I have uncovered now that I am at the half way mark. First, I now have record of 26 GXPs that are junked, totaled, or salvaged. Now remember, some of those "salvaged" cars may have already been saved from the crusher, and may still get back on the road someday. I have also discovered that at least 34 GXPs were either sold new in Canada, or have found their way north across the border. I have also now confirmed the factory original tires on 928 total GXPs. 859 of them have the QCZ-Summer Only Performance Tires (92.56%), and 69 of them have the RP2-All Season Tires (7.44%). This statistic will change dramatically now as I get the last 1/2 of the cars verified, since they really didn't start putting the RP2 tires on with any regularity until 11/17/2008. I anticipate that the QCZ tires will likely make up as much as 65% of total production, but we'll have to wait and see.

If you own a GXP and have not sent me a PM with the last 6 of your VIN, please do so! I want to make this Registry as complete as possible. Thanks for you patience and stay tuned for more GXP Info!

I have now completed my extensive research on the first 1000 of the 1829 GXPs, now only 829 to go! I felt like I was farther along until I realized that this is only 54.14% of the way done. It's scary how much paper and toner cartridges I have gone thru. I couldn't even begin to add up the hours that all of this has taken, but it's worth it! This will be nice though, because I will now have paper back-up documentation for the Excel spreadsheet that will feed the G8 GXP Registry website once I get done.

So here is what we now know. I now have record of 28 GXPs that are totaled, junk, salvage, or rebuilt titles. There is also now record of 36 GXPs that are north of the border in Canada, and don't forget the 3 that stayed in Australia. I am showing that 923 of the first 1000 GXPs had QCZ - Potenzas, and only 77 had the RP2 - RS-As. As mentioned before the percentage RP2 cars should increase as my research continues, but I'm betting on no more than 35% of production having them. Hope folks are enjoying the stats and rundown! Keep those VINs coming if you haven't posted them or PM'ed me!

Sorry that it has been so long since I have updated this info, but this is now about as detailed as you can get! Based on this new update, I am going to list below rarest combinations of G8 GXPs including the tire info:

PSM A6 Onyx No Sunroof QCZ - 1
SBM M6 Onyx No Sunroof RP2 - 1
SBM A6 Onyx Sunroof QCZ - 2
SBM M6 Onyx Sunroof QCZ - 2
SBM A6 Onyx No Sunroof QCZ - 2
MGM M6 Onyx Sunroof QCZ - 3
SBM M6 Onyx Sunroof RP2 - 3
PSM M6 Onyx No Sunroof QCZ - 3
PSM M6 Onyx Sunroof QCZ - 3
WH M6 Onyx/Red No Sunroof RP2 - 4
WH A6 Onyx/Red No Sunroof RP2 - 4
WH A6 Onyx No Sunroof RP2 - 4
MSM M6 Onyx/Red No Sunroof RP2 - 4

If you have one of these cars, you might want to hang onto it ;-)

Hope people enjoy all the info!

I wanted to pop in to let everyone know about the status of the G8 GXP Registry. I now have a state/province for all but 4 of all the GXPs ever built. This is the most current information on each car that I could find. With sales of vehicles and people moving, it can change of course. I am even prouder of the fact that I have now tracked down specific owners for 524 GXPs. That is 28.65% of all of them ever built. With only 25 more GXPs, we hit the 30% mark, and with only 80 GXPs we hit 1/3 of all the cars documented. That would be an awesome threshold to attain! There are quite a few members of this site who own GXPs who have either not contacted me, or failed to respond to me to verify the car they own. Please, please, please do so, so that this Registry can be as complete as possible. When I launch the Registry, your name will not be made public, and only the location state will be listed by the car, so your privacy will be maintained. I have a number of people who have provided this information only on the condition that I not divulge any info at all without going thru them first. I have happily complied, and am happy to do that for anyone else who asks.

I am going to go out on a limb, and make a promise here. Once we hit that 33% mark (only 80 more cars), I will take the necessary final steps to launch the G8 GXP Registry website and give free public access to it to all. Please help me get there to add some more work to my plate, LOL!

The number is creeping up ever so slowly! I have now tracked down owners for 555 GXPs (30.34% of total production). That means that I need 49 more to get us to 33% to get the G8 GXP Registry website launched.

I am sending PMs out to lots of G8 GXP owners on this Board who have never responded with the last 6 digits of their VIN. There are 71 of them so far, and there are plenty more to go! If I hear back from these people, it will easily get us up to 33%. Remember, if you are concerned for privacy reasons to release this info, NONE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFO WILL END UP ON THE WEBSITE! I will only list the last 6 digits of the VIN, and the state that the car is located in. The more complete the Registry is, the more valuable it will be to the G8 GXP Community!

bracketracer
10-13-2015, 09:17 AM
I am now up to 566 GXP owners confirmed in the Registry, so we are at 30.95%. 38 more and I'll reach that magic 33% and have to get the Public website launched. If you haven't sent me a PM with the last 6 digits of your VIN, please do so. I can get you all the specific production info on your car, and we can make the G8 GXP Registry as complete as possible. The more complete it is, the better of a tool it will be to the G8 GXP Community.

Well, over the last 3 months I have increased the number of GXPs that I have linked to a specific owner. The G8 GXP Registry now has owners of 720 of the 1829 GXPs produced. That is 39.37% of the total production. We only need 12 more owners to get us to the 40% mark. I am looking forward to hitting that milestone. If you own a G8 GXP and have not gotten your specific production info, please send me a PM with the last 6 digits of your VIN. Even if you are someone who wants to maintain your privacy, please reach out to me. I have a number of owners who have specifically requested that they will only share their info if I keep them private. I have, and will, always honor that request. I was in military intelligence and held a Top Secret SCI Security Clearance, so I have a long track record of maintaining secrets. I just want to make sure that the G8 GXP Registry is as complete as it possibly can be. This helps the entire community, and I believe that it will be even more beneficial as time passes. Please keep your info coming!

Thanks!

I haven't updated this for awhile, so I figured that I would pop in to let everyone know the status of the G8 GXP Registry. I have now tracked down the owners of 726 GXPs (39.69% of total production). We only need to document 6 more cars to get over the 40% threshhold. Some former owners have parted with their GXPs, and I haven't always been contacted by, or notified of, the new owners, so that contributes to the slower progress. If you own a G8 GXP, and haven't reached out to me, please do so. I just need the last 6 digits of your VIN, and I will give you all the specific production info on your car. If you know of someone who owns a G8 GXP, please have them reach out to me as well. If you spot a G8 GXP at a show or otherwise "in the wild", please try to notify me as well. These may be cars that I have not been able to track down a location for yet. Just note last 6 digits of the VIN, the state of its license plate, and where and when you spotted it. Doing this is alot of work, but it is made easier with assistance from others in the community. Thank you!

It has been awhile since I have updated the current status of the G8 GXP Registry. I am proud to say that I now have the owners of 750 of the 1829 GXPs tracked down (41% of total production). Considering the amount of time and effort this has required over the years, I am pretty proud of that! If you are the owner of a G8 GXP, or know someone who owns one, please get in touch with me. I only need to last 6 digits of the VIN to confirm all specific production info.

It's a new year, and that means it's time to update the current status of the G8 GXP Registry. I am happy to report that I have now documented the owners of 788 of the 1829 GXPs (43.08% of total production). It looks like that means I have added a little over 30 of them in the last year. I can live with that, although I would like it to be more. If you are the owner of a G8 GXP, or know someone who owns one, please get in touch with me. I only need to last 6 digits of the VIN to confirm all specific production info. There are still plenty of GXP owners on this site who have not had their GXPs confirmed on the Registry.
