....and a better camera.
Thunderstorm passed by tonight with some impressive cloud to cloud lightning. Somehow it always new to flash when I wasn't ready. Got a couple pieces of it, though!

Man, I love lightning! I could sit outside all night and watch a lightning storm. When it's really storming bad, I'll chase the storm and hope I get to see some good lightning or tornadoes. Unfortunately, we don't get many tornadoes around here.

Car looks good.

Tons of storms going around. Yesterday around 4:30p a thunder storm went over Lockport NY. I'm standing in my kitchen with my son, my wife is in the family room and all of a sudden BOOOOOM and a huge flash of light in my backyard. I jump (scared the shit out of me) he starts crying and my wife is yelling saying she felt it in her chest. I looked out the window to see if anything was burning, trees or the house behind us and there was nothing. After the rain slowed down I went to the backyard and looked around. Lightning hit in our backyard. I took pics of three little holes in the ground from the size of a quarter to an old silver dollar with burnt grass around it.

Lightning is no joke, but I would love to see it hit again just not so close.

Yes you need a tripod to shoot lightning. All you really need to do is put the camera on the tripod, preset the focus, and use a long exposure.

Its very rare that you can time the lightning and get a good photo.

Tell me about it! I kept waiting for one more good flash, but it appeared to have moved on so I figured I would head home. As soon as I got up the best one of the evening went off:poof:
I'm too old and slow and my camera is slower than me. Have to figure out if it can do a long exposure shot. Then I will have to wait for another storm!

If you do, get a good one. I suggest a Manfrotto tripod and manfrotto head.

I picked up a cheap tripod for like 20 dollars, it does what I need it to do. its a must for night shots.
