Anyone had the rear seat out of an '09 or '08?
I have had a few people that were interested in adding the rear seat cup holder but I don't know how it is installed.

I ordered on from GM and there isn't much to it. The '09 seat cover part info says when in stalling on a car with the cup holder to cut a slot in the front of the cover to fit.

I don't know if the frame is different to accept the holder or not.
Anyone want to cut a hole in their rear seat to see if it fits :poof:

Rear set pops right out, its nothing but foam (weighs about 5 lbs). Pull up on front and pull it out.

The back cushions are bolted in, 4 bolts each, very easy removal once the cushion is out.

This is for 08 GT.

The dealership for some reason won't let me tear into a brand new car.
Anyone with the cup holder want to pop the rear seat to check the mounting of the cup holder in the frame and pad?

The four bolts that go across the bottom of the seatback, that's all it takes to pull that puppy off?

I am kind of dense, but Greg I don't understand exactly what you're asking for. I have some cupholders in the backseat, they're built into the part of the seatback that flips down for the passthrough. Is that what you're talking about, or something else?

Greg is looking at the slide out holder in the seat bottom cushion in the newer cars. Thanx for checking into this, Greg. I don't know why they won't let you experiment ;)

I don't got no stinkin' cupholders in my rear armrest (09)..

Not the armrest, the passthrough. They are on that. 09.5 and GXP got additional ones that pop out from the front edge of the bottom seat cushion.

I know right. The owner drives a G8 GT and he just got rear ended lightly and they have the car in the body shop. I was hoping they would have the rear seat out but no luck.

Talk to the body guy, it literally takes seconds and no tools to pull it.

I would pull mine but I don't have the cupholders.

Neither does the car in the shop. If it did I would ask to have him pull it real quick.

My 09 only has cup holders in the rear pass through. I don't know of any 08 or 09 that had the cup holders that were located on the front edge of the rear seat. Could be wrong but wasn't it only on the Aussie versions? Anyway, I did not like the idea of seeing through the pass through area into the trunk when someone uses the cupholders. Don't think it is safe either. So I went to my local sound audio car place and had a panel made (removable) that covers that area from within the trunk. It is covered with the grey speaker box fabric. Will post pictures later. He even put a raised G8 logo on it. Also 2 handles, does a great job and cost less than $50.00 .

Would love to know more about this. I saw the slot on the 9.5 GT's (I have an '08) and would really like to add rear cup holders in that slot.

Here you go. It appears that it is glued into a recess cut out of the seat foam.

Here is the seat out:

There are two tabs on each side that hold the seat bottom down

BTW these particular cup holders SUCK! I actually call them the "pissed off parent generator" :mad:because no matter what you will spill stuff when you use these. They are in an excellent position and the slide out function it pretty trick but the rim that holds the cup is very flimsy and doesn't do it's job very well.

Thanx! Now if you could remove it so we can see the opening in the leather ;)

Go to another dealer and take one out for a test drive :secret:

The opening in the rear of the console would've been a great spot for the cuholder. My 02 Maxima has one there. Maybe someone can fabricate on that would pull out and work in that location.

Greg,

What is the cost for the cup holder slidder? I am interested. If someone can venture in trying to define what that slot should look like.....

In this shot you can see the two tabs that I thought would have locked the holder into the seat. They are not actually holding anything. There are no other lock tabs on the unit. I would say a pretty easy install. Cut a small slot in the cover and trim the foam and glue in.

First person that wants to try will get the holder at my cost ;)

Hey Greg, if solty does not take you up on your offer to be the first one, I'll do it. I just took my rear seats out to put down some sound deader, and it does not look that hard to install. Let me know by PM or here. Thanks

Think I will pass. If someone needs a cupholder they can use the ones in the fold down. I think they will end up only pissing me off when they spill something. Cute but not really functional.

CUP HOLDERS? Inna back seats????

IF I ever let someone ride back there they will bloody well NOT need cup holders!

NO food, NO drinks in da' penguin's ride! :nah:
