View Full Version : Interior Noise

So my GXP has developed some rather annoying interior noise, and with less than 5000 miles on the odo. Started last Monday morning and has persisted. Nothing special occurred on the Sunday prior save that I washed the car. Next morning, it was making this noise and it's been doing it since.
You know that sticky noise rubber makes when you pull it away from plastic or glass? That's what the noise sounds like.
The noise occurs with almost any cabin vibration, such as even small bumps on the road. It sounds primarily like it's coming from the dash and maybe from the support and doors on the right side of the car. It's hard to place, because it sounds like it's being made by an area rather than a single piece.
I'm guessing that it's due to the fact that I approach my driveway at an angle and this is torquing the frame, loosening bits in the cabin.
Anyone else experience this? Any known solutions? Can/will the dealer do something about it?

Welcome to the world of the G8. Mine has similiar noises as well. Most notably the creaking roof pillars behind the driver and front passenger. Be prepared to hear "Cannot duplicate noise at this time" by the dealer. Good luck.

I pulled my head liner down and found what my noise was... It has what looks like egg carton points on top of it made of plastic and they tap on the roof when I drive. I coated each one with the soft side of velcro and shoved some 2" foam up there and think I fixed it.
I am also throwing in a TON of Raammat.

I took mine into the dealer today and had the service manager ride along with me while we listened to a noise that mine was making. It took them forever to locate the problem, but it turned out to be a heat shield that had come loose and was flapping in the wind when driving over 50 mph. It was on the passenger side, around the dash area.

Mine is going to the dealer tomorrow. I will have them check it out. Any problem reinstalling the headliner? Thanks for the info.

Not to practice thread necromancy, but I finally figured out what the noise in the roof of my car was. It's not the headliner. It's the sunroof. The rubber perimeter seal is rubbing where the sunroof meets the metal of the roof. I can press on the sunroof from the inside or outside and it makes the noise I've been hearing. Similarly, popping the sunroof open a smidge while driving quiets the noise.
I'll be taking it in this Friday to get this looked at. We'll see what they say.

This is why I didn't really care to have a 'roof on mine but oh well. It's already been tightened up by the dealer once and I'll make them do it again on the next oil change.

Yeah, my old GTP was a rattle trap, and mostly because of the factory sun roof. While I miss it at times, my G8 has been absolutely rattle and creak free (at least, on the interior. can't say the same for my lower control arm. :)) the whole time I've owned it.

Mine was doing this exact thing. Simple matter of lubricating the perimeter seal. I picked up a tube of DuPont rubber/seal lubricant at the local swimming pool supply place. It doesn't wash off easily so it lasts a long time, is made for rubber seals so it won't hurt em and is a paste so it goes on real easy. I really prefer to do stuff like this myself; takes all of 5 minutes as opposed to half a day fooling with the dealer service department. Not to mention the fact that 50% of the time I get my car back from them with something else wrong.

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!
I disconnected the battery as you have to reach around the air bags... Be VERY VERY careful around them. I doubt anything can happen but you never know.

I only pulled down the one side. You will have to remove the rubber seal around the top of the doors, the A, B, and C pillar plastic. I believe the rear light comes down by jerking on it. (not 100%)
Like I said, I only removed the one side as it was where my problem was.

I get a rear deck rattle when going over a rough road (of which Pa has a LOT of).
How do I get that apart? Start at the rear seat I presume.

Yeah you have to remove the bottom first by pulling up on the front of the seat. You'll feel where it's attached. Just jerk up on it and then it will go up and forward to remove. The back is bolted in on the bottom. Remove bolts and it will slid down and forward. Now you're on your own... I never removed my deck lid. I matted under it.
