Paul, I figured you would be the man that might know. Is it possible to change the g8 gt's shifter with the right hand drive holdens? This would make it so you have to pull the shifter toward the driver to engage the select shift. I would imagine you would also be able to obtain the part! Please let us know Paul, and thanks, Kevin

The shifter is the same on both right and left hand drives. For a right hand drive manual the shift pattern is the same as our left hand drive, and the pedals are in the same order as well:clutch far left, brake middle and gas right side - you're justing sitting in the other side of the car. I was surprised to learn that right hand drive vehicles are set up like this when a friend of mine imported an older Nissan Skyline that I had the pleasure of driving a few times.

I beg to differ. I have seen a pic of a right hand drive holden and the select shift is still positioned away from the driver. This is not a nissan. Kevin

I agree with Irnwkrkev,

I had started a thread on this subject long time back on the other forum:
http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14588

Some folks were interested, but none of the vendors seamed engaged in looking for it.....

Oh well maybe this time around.

I stand corrected. Surprised though that they added the expense of different shift selectors for right versus left hand drive models.

OK so my moms RL is like the Holden (manual mode closer to driver) and it feels so much more natural than the G8... why did they change it from the Holden design????

The shifter knob and handle & A6 Gear Surround are interchangable.

The OP is however talking about the sector and whatever is below it.
I see what he's talking about. Don't know all thats involved though.

Just a thought here. Say you switch it out, and you go to shift, and in your ferver for another gear, you push a little away from you as well as forward. Suddenly you are in neutral.

SON OF A B!TCH!!!! They also get to pull BACK to UPSHIFT!! This would be exactly how I would have liked the select shift to come from the factory.

I also see what looks like a Sport Shift button where we have the passenger seat heat button. It makes me wonder if our Sport Mode would work with this shifter.

The pic I posted was a Calais, there's about 6 or more different bezels with different buttons and different colours available. Some are one button, some are 3. All the different rectangular bezels fit into both the Sports and the Calais style gear surround trims.
So the switches themselves are all interchangeable.

I'd think the complete Shift Control Assembly would need to be changed from the G8 style to the Holden style to change the gear shift pattern.
