If any of you fellow Rochesterian G8'ers (or nearby Western NY'ers) want to run at the track, I plan on going up this Friday (8/7) to NYIRP to put the new engine to the test! I thought last time was a blast, so it would be cool to see some of you there if possible.

Let me know if anyone is interested! I'm bringing a helmet so in case you don't have one, I can loan it out.

I believe they open at 5:30 for inspections. I should be there at open or shortly after. The plan right now is to leave near or before 5PM from downtown Rochester.

I would go, but two things. I have a reservation at black n blue at 7:30, and i'm waiting on two replacement control arms for my car. I hit a nasty set of potholes and when i brought the car in for recalls, one of which being the tcm program that they did for a second time, i dont' know why, they said my ball joints were bad up front, and had to order the parts in, and then i would imagine my alignment might be free!!! Great news on that, but it was causing my tires to wear uneven of course. Hope they're in this week, need my car ready for a trip weekend after next.

yeah baby! Though you'll probably get your best times right before the track closes in the fall. Did you break 13 last time you went? I knew you were running 14's all day long...

I believe it was a 13.9 i got on my first run. Then i couldn't get lower than 14.1

Will be leaving in about an hour and a half...If I don't see any of you, I'll be sure to lay some rubber for you. Weather is looking great. We'll see if I can beat my 13.7 now that my tune is up to snuff.

I just got home 30 minutes ago... 6:30p so I'm out.

I will Def be out there on the 21st. Hopefully lots will show that day.

Awesome night at the track. Lots of cars. I destroyed my original best time of 13.7.

Took 3 runs, each got better. Opened with a 13.342 at 103.35MPH...then ran a 13.273 at 106.60MPH...and finished off with my best run so far, a 13.215 at a surprisingly slower 105.17mph.

Final slip (will post once I scan):

R/T - .972
60' - 2.012
1/8 - 8.582 at 83.72MPH
1000 - 11.095
1/4 - 13.215
MPH - 105.17

inching closer to 13.1 which may be possible with a better 60'...definitely with some drag radials.

ah ha! Sweet! I first thought you were a V6 since I saw single tail pipes, but once I got closer behind you I noticed you were de-badged completely (and the tips didn't look like V6 tips).

That is one bad ass looking car man. Black at night....killer! You live in Irondequoit? I'm on Curtice Rd, right off the corner of Titus and Hudson (Wegmans).

holy crap. I better start a parts list of components that will likely need replacing eventually and order up now. By the time they go, they might actually get them in!

Wow dude nice times, youre finally right where I am! Well, consistently, youre still .2 and 2mph away from my current best ;) And with a stock exhaust too, very cool. Good to see that new motor and the new tune are working out for ya. Get an exhaust and you'll be neck and neck with me ;)

If the weather is nice I think I might be in for going next Friday as well. I'll have more than 2000 miles on my car after the engine was repaired, so it should be plenty broken in by now. I gotta test out the new TCM tune Mike did for me to see how that works, and if hes gonna be at the track Im sure he might make a few changes for me if its not working out the way we hope.

So lets all pray for some nice weather next Friday!!

Really good time for the mods you got. Work on your reaction time.
Get it down to .2 and you got a 12.5 car.

FALSE. Reaction time has nothing to do with ET.

If he can get his 60' time down .2 though, he'll probably have a 12.9 car. Without an exhaust it might be tough, but doable at the right track in the right conditions. Without a higher stall converter, a 12.5 is going to be tough. Unless he can somehow make up a ton of time on the big end of the track.

Just a little drag racing note.....Reaction time has no bearing on you 1/4 mile time. Until you break the staging beam your time doesn't start.

O.K. Guys. I worded that wrong.
What I meant to say is, if he gets his R/T way down he will go
from point A to point B in a much quicker time.
So he could go from a total race time of 14.187 to 13.4 secs.
You can win a race with a slower E.T.
and IMO the win light at the end is what counts.

majesticix
08-16-2009, 09:21 AM
Yeah my reaction time wasn't great. I wasn't really too concerned about it.

I figure my 60ft 2.0 was pretty good with stock tires and not adjusting my tire pressure at all (I was hitting 2.0's on all 3 runs at about 1000 RPM brake torque). I figure adjusting my tire pressure and playing around with my RPM launch I can hit 1.9. I'm going to try some drag radials as well and that should help. I figure when fall hits I'm going to aim for 13 flat.

What the heck happened to your engine?!? Mike had said something when I was there that you had problems with your heads or something. WTF???

Cliffs notes: Engine took in water from sitting through a nasty hard Florida rainstorm (rain made its way through the hood scoops and through the filter, collecting in the airbox and getting sucked in to the motor), piston and rod didnt like it, car now has a fresh piston and rod assembly in cylinder #7 lol :p

hot damn...I got an email from New Era to come in and have my intake modified. I believe I may have sucked some water in myself because my problem came right after a nasty rain storm. Not to mention, it happened again with the new motor I think. Car ran funny when I started it, steam out the tail pipes, and the exhaust was really loud. Thankfully no ticking noise and shortly after it dissipated and runs like a champ.

I'm going into New Era tomorrow to have my intake modified. Glad it worked out for you in the end, but damn this is a really odd coincidence.

Got a 1/16" hole drilled into the bottom of my intake today to make sure if any water penetrates the filter, it will leak out at a stand still. Might see Mike @ New Era if you didn't receive an email to have them drill one for you.

NYG8GT
08-18-2009, 09:43 AM
Well, I think he offered that based on some pics I sent him. I washed my car 2 weekends ago and I decided to blast the vents with the hose for about 5 seconds each. I did that and pulled the filter, and there was a good sized puddle of water in there. I sent him the pics, and he told me the day after that he wanted me to stop by because he has a fix. He gave me a new coupler that angles the back side of the airbox a little more upwards so the water cant collect in the back, and drilled the hole. Hes a stand up guy and I sure appreciated him doing it for me, especially since it was after I just had knee surgery that morning and was on crutches so I couldnt do much for myself.

Doh, that sucks. I'm bringing mine in Monday morning cause I think my gas cap is (or isn't?) screwed! Had the check engine light come on twice in 3 weeks for emissions. Happened both times after I filled up the car (within 2 days the first time) and right after the second time.

That or my washer mod is rearing its head :nah:
