A beer that was falsely promoted as a feel-good elixir decades ago may
actually have some lifesaving qualities, according to a new study.
A pint of Guinness stout may have the same impact in improving blood
circulation as a low dose of aspirin, researchers from the University of
Wisconsin told a conference of the American Medical Association in
Orlando, Fla., the BBC reported Wednesday.

A new study suggests a pint of Guinness beer may be as effective
as a low dose of aspirin in stopping blood clots.

The researchers' study found that antioxidants in Guinness helped reduce
blood-clotting activity in dogs. The animals have narrow blood vessels
similar to those of humans who suffer from heart disease.
The experts believe that in addition to the anti-clogging qualities of alcohol,
some ingredients in Guinness can actually slow deposits of cholesterol
in the blood.
A spokeswoman for Diageo, the manufacturer of Guinness,
refused to boast of the findings.
"We never make any medical claims for our drinks," she told the BBC.
Decades ago, the beer was marketed with the slogan
"Guinness is Good for You."
In England in the 1920s, a pint was often given to patients after surgery,
blood donors and pregnant women, the BBC said. This, of course, runs
counter to modern medical advice.

Of course I have yet to find any place on this side of the pond, in the lower 48 that knows how to serve it correctly. Need to head back to the UK for a proper pint! :beer3:

I had posted this on the recipe thread, http://www.forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=7607&highlight=recipes so looks like more shakes all around, and if the ice cream runs out, who would care, as long as the Guinness is still cold...
Guinness Milkshake!!

2 or 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1 or 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream
1/2 to 1 tsp of vanilla flavor
1/2 to 1 cup of Guinnes Extra Stout

Blend all ingredients together until smooth. All items can be modified to taste, less or more, all depends on you.

Guinness Surger!! You all need to get out more or come to my house.... Guinness makes a special can and glass for these. You put some water(about a tsp) on the surger and pour the Guinness into the glass place it on the surger and it sends a sonic wave thru the beer to create the cascade..mmmmm yummy I actually does taste better than tap Guinness. I'll probably grab a case tomorrow and take some pics :)

The Guinness Surger is a small unit that is used externally to
send a shockwave of ultra-sound through a specially
brewed can of Guinness.

One can only assume that the ultra-sonic waves
somehow release nitrogen bubbles that are "asleep" in
the beer mixture until awakened by the vibrations.

This system produces the Perfect Pint - At the touch of
a button, the Surger sends an ultra-sonic pulse through
the pint glass, releasing the gases in the Guinness beer,
which then settles into the velvet pint with creamy
head.

Ah, so it knocks the gas out of suspension.

So for $120 you too can drink flat beer!

;)

Can Guiness be purchased at a Specs liquor store? Even though I dont drink, I do feel the need to try it to become more educated. :)
