View Full Version : Smoked my Fuel Pump.

I managed to blow another fuel pump. The first went when the car was still stock, and now it happened again.

I recently turned up my KB BAP because of my 2.9" pulley install and after about three days the fuel pump went.

I don't know if it was the BAP, but it's at the shop now. They are also going to fix the clunking I get when going over bumps.

WTF Now I'm stuck driving a crappy rental. :poof:

Is there some kind of short or surge in your car ?? Seems wierd that you smoked a fuel pump when you were stock and now it happened again.

Thats always been my issues with BAPs. How much you turn it up determines how long the pump lasts in certain vehicles.

What were the symptoms when it went? Car just quit?

I am gonna guess this helps fuel moving to his maggie?

Yeah it just quit. I went to go at a green light and it just bogged. I was able to limp (roll) it into a parking lot and it just quit. when I tried to start it it would just fire (stumble) a bit and then stall.

I bypassed the BAP while stranded and the same thing. The BAP was warm.

Just before I had been running on E, got some gas then shortly after it blew.

Maybe it was running hot because I ran it to E exposing the pump + the 17 volts full time that the BAP was set for. The only reason I was running it this way is that someone said it would take it full time. Well I guess not.

Live and learn again!:)

The idea of the Boost-A-Pump is simple, increase the voltage to the fuel pump and increase fuel flow. Since EFI fuel pumps are really nothing more than electrical motors, the amount of voltage they receive determines the motor's speed and therefore its output.

did you find a reason why the stock pump failed Norm?

Wow. 2 pumps failed already? I am running the MagnaVolt with my Maggie/2.8 pulley combo and now you have me a little nervous.

I'm confused I guess... nothing new LOL
I thought the whole idea was that the BAP only ran at WOT so it doesn't burn up the fuel pump.

Are you guys saying you run them at max voltage during WOT or are you saying you are running it all the time regardless of throttle position?

Mine is set to kick in at 3 PSI boost.

If you've gone through 2 already I'd look into Lonnie's Performance dual pump setup or something! :)

Here's the link where I saw it from on LS1 Tech. They were basically introducing it and seeing who was interested in the G8 crowds.

I'm looking forward to seeing your new setup. I'm looking for a better setup myself for the future.
