I participate regularly in various motorcycle forums and this thread is usually a fun one. It gives us a lot of ideas of what each of us does from one day to another on our cars and also gives us ideas of what to do to our own G8's...http://www.vmaxforum.net/new%20smilies/thumbup1.gif It's not to take the place of specific threads but a lot of us do things to our cars that have been talked about to death but we still want to say "HEY I DID THIS!"

Please post here if you just looked at it, washed it, added a new geegaw, pumped up the tires, painted it, etc etc... You get the idea. Nothing's too trivial to post here... Anything goes except NSFW items... Forum rules apply here of course!:)

So??

OK I'll be the first...

Since my car is parked until I get the lower control arm replaced I decided to tear into her. The squeaks and rattles are just to much for me. The number one noise was one that I've had since new. It's right above my left ear and goes away if I put a slight amount of pressure on the head liner. So I tore all the parts off so I could drop down that part of the head liner and put the soft side of VelcroŽ on all the little plastic tits that are glued to the back side of the head liner (think egg carton) which keep the head liner away from the roof but touch the roof. I also had some foam that I bought which I stuffed up there. I believe I have fixed that issue but only a drive will tell me that.

I then tore into the doors and completely covered them with Raammat (like dynamat). I did the door skins and the inner part. I'm hoping that will reduce some of the road noise. There's very little anything in there stock to do it so I'm sure this will help.

Cheers,
Chris

Nothing today yet, but yesterday took her on her first road trip. We drove 3 hours to a mini-family reunion on Elizabethtown, NC. Before the trip I changed the oil for the first time (1000 miles) and gave her a bath. It sure was a conversation piece at the reunion!

Installed my upgraded Holden leather/sliding center console lid...SUCH an improvement, it's hard to fathom. I always hated not only how rubbery the stock lid felt but how junky-wiggly it was in general, and this solved all of that and more. Closes with a muted thud, it's taller and firmer so it's actually useful to my arm and comfy, slides forward to hide the cupholders & anything I might put in them or back, etc., etc. The best little mod I've done in a while.

Tonight finally decided to check the air in my full size 19" spare and while in there, somehow not until now, discovered the little trunk lid hook to hold the trunk floor up...I've wondered for 5 months and never figured out that's what it was for until now. Good news, regardless, for when I'm digging in there.

How much of the center console did you have to disassemble to install the console lid?

I've been working on the wife for a mod budget for a while now and today pulled the trigger on my biggest run ever. I think I spent more on mods today than mods on my last 3 cars combined.

- From JHP, the console lid above, their red/black steering wheel, and red/black shifter.
- CCW SP500s. 19x9 w 245/40 Nitto Invos in front, 19x10 w 275/35 Nitto Invos in back
- From Livernois, 3.27 rear end, Kooks 1 3/4 headers, catted X pipe, UDP, tune

I still have about 800 left to spend, so I'm going to do the GXP front end conversion and rear difusor.

Installed a NACA duct in the large, flat plastic skid plate behind the front bumper right underneath the air intake, which has effectively transformed the enclosed box that the cone filter sits in into a ventilated space. Duct exits probably 1" from the end of the cone. No pics as I'm on a work computer (internet not yet hooked up at home).

Wife took it to the strip today and agreed that it made a difference in keeping the engine happy - hotlapping at 87F outside and ET kept reducing (hit the wall at 13.3). Throttle response seems a bit better.

Rotated my tires, found a nail in one, and discovered there's nowhere nearby to get a tire plugged at 4pm on a sunday. No pics right now, but I'm currently running a mismatched set of rims. Three 19 inch stock summers along with one of my winter tires as a spare. Terrific start to the week.

I have now picked up some sort of metal in one of my tires each of the last 3 years. First was a worn down drill bit in the sidewall on my G35(not fixable, of course) Noticed that one on the day of my wedding, when the TPMS went off. Second was a screw in the tread the next year(plugged and lasted until tires were replaced). And now this little guy today. I must have magnetized rims or something, damn.

you know you dont have to worry about any tuning for the current recalls. They are in the BPPS and the RCDLR. Nothing to do with the ECM or TCM. And if you are tuned and have the open TCM recall, then you are just wasting your time.

Yeah, even though I was 50% over the limit, they consider 21 mph over the posted limit something more than minor.

Bought a new tire for it. 6k miles and 2 5 inch long nails in the tire. $300 for new tire, $120 to get hazard warranty on the other 3 and 50 to balance and rotate. $500 in mod money down the drain. If you ever buy a house in a developing neighborhood make sure you get road hazard on your tires. My wifes car got a nail 2 weeks ago and now this. Oh well had al ittle extra cash on the last paycheck had hoped to spend it on something more fun but at least it was there.

Not today but Saturday... Took a 3 hour trip up to my Pedders installer and had them install the front strut per the Pedders instructions and then had it aligned. I still have the clunk so after an exhaustive search and the tightening of an untold number of bolts we found the UPPER control arm ball joint is spent.

REALLY??? WTF OVER! So now I will have replaced both upper and lower control arms on this heap of shit!

Never raced, never abused. No curb checks, NOTHING!

If it weren't for Greg at Pace I would be a poor man I think... lol

So I have to get the new arm, press the stock oil filled bushing out of it and install the Pedders bushing and install into the car. I'm starting to think that the Pedders suspension is to hard on the stock ball joints. Anyone else in on this theory?

Dropped the car off at the body shop and picked it up again for the finishing touches after the freak hailstorm damage of a couple of months ago.

Removed my flowmaster mufflers and installed a set of stock mufflers. Huge difference in sound inside the car and out. I will drive it for a week and see if I like the sound or not.

I have thought about that approach. Leave the flowmasters on for daily driving then swap them out for stocks for extended trips. I have had the flowmasters for about a year and had gotten use to their volume in the car. When I put the headers on a couple of weeks ago I noticed an increase in volume. Not bad at 80+ on the freeway but below that the drone was really loud. I forgot how quiet the car was with stocks. It is nice on the inside but a little wimpy on the outside.

What the hell? I put my stock mufflers back on also. Long drive next week with 3 other people from work. It is amazing that I'd forgotten how quiet the car is.

Yep. I was shocked at how quiet it was.
I gotta build me a set of Magnaflows. Or those Cors's I have sitting in the garage. Your Magnaflows are still here Ron.

There seems to be a lot of early part failures on the G8's, they sure don't make things they way they used to. I had to have the front lower control arms replaced on my car and so have many others.

I bought a stainless steel rear license plate frame for my car today, so now I'm going to go out and install it. If I feel ambitious I just might take some pics and post them up.

Made a "New" lower body brace to replace the stock one after the headers and pipes. Didn't like shimming the brace with the shims provided with the headers so I made an offset brace that allows for the pipes to route through without the shims. Used 1/8" steel, cut and weld and done.
