Box stock G8 GT - just turned a 14.06 at 101.59. TC off, sport mode, clicked back when in 3rd gear to keep it there, power braked to about 1200 rpm, floored it at launch. That's it. Stock, this car would be a hellava bracket racer, it's really consistent!

If you hadn't powerbraked it probably would have been a bit better time.

Kinda gettin to me that these car keep running 14's stock. I got a friend coming to the track with me with a WS6 with the LS1 that has some work done to it. He said stock, it runs 13.2's. I told him mine run's 13.5's stock, which is what some magazines reported along with MissNaySimon, but everyone else keeps reporting times in the 14's stock. DANG IT!!!

Lots of folks are in the 13s stock. Don't powerbrake, TC off, run it in sport mode and request a downshift around 80 to keep it in 3rd.

I wonder why powerbreaking doesn't give faster times?

I think I just found out the answer to your question. I believe that the PCM retards timing if you power brake. I believe that's why WreckWriter is suggesting that you don't power brake. I'm going back to the track next week to confirm this. I'll post the results. My times last night (power braking) were 14.06 at 101.5 mph.

I thought it was so you spin the tires less but, that might be possible to. The fastest 1/4 time stock was attained by launching at idle. 13.5 STOCK by MissNaySimon

Powerbraking doesn't seem to help with the stock converter. Many have seen the same results. Since you're getting a converter Mike, you'll need to start experimenting with powerbraking to find the best launch RPM. 1500-2000 I expect will be the right area.

Its a guess though, mostly based on George's testing, haven't had practice time with mine yet.

The reason I mentioned that the ecm could be interfering if you power brake is that I saw it mentioned by a mechanic on another forum (happens with some GM V-6's)
