View Full Version : 11 PSI - Should I worry?

I swapped out my pulley yesterday for a 2.9" and now it's peaking at 11psi. The car seems to run great. I definitely noticed an increase in power.
11psi seems high for this motor. Anyone else running this high? I bet I'm asking for it.

Nice. I would be curious to know this as well...

11 is kinda high. I worry about 10. I was told 7-8 is safe.

I sorta figured it was high...I'm going to run with it for now and keep an eye on the boost gauge. I know it's pushing it now. I saw someone (done2many?) that is running a 2.8" pulley. I wonder what boost he's getting...hmmm
Or..This boost gauge is cheap (Autozone) and is giving me a wrong reading.

As a turbo Buick owner, I say if you don't pop a head gasket every once in a while, you're not trying hard enough. Damn the torpedos! More boost! If you break something, that's just an excuse to upgrade!

I'm making about 12psi of boost but I'm spraying water/meth. It's kind of pushing the engine to it's limit... I have a fail safe in place in case that the water/meth kit stop working it'll default back to low octane table, which doesn't have much timing at all.

I was gonna say, get a cheap water/meth kit, they are awesome.
We put one on a 9.60 Mustang, and it felt like we added nitrous to it. Wow.
As long as you are not in the boost all the time (like I would be) you will probably be ok.

Hmmm..it really depends on the motor...if the tune is correct (no KR) then the only think is a mechanical failure from the pressure. I ran 15 psi on my GTP no problem...but it was designed as a SC engine.
If you have a tuner, you should be able to see the MAP sensor and compute boost that way.

How did you rig that up?
