Battery useage differs. If the tip rotates, it utilizes a satellite/radar-esqe receiver, and therefore requires more batteries.:)

I may give it a try. If it gets XM I'm good. The factory one doesn't look good and it is pretty damn cheap to try out. It doesn't list it for our car. it still fit?

Put mine on on Sunday AM before church... I made sure to put a dab of loc-tite on the threads leading into the antenna as I wanted to lock the stud into it so hopefully it comes out easier in the future if need be. OK I'm weird like that.

Just got back from a ride and the reception seemed fine. Seattle is hilly so radio reception here is spotty at times anyway. I really like the look, it doesn't grab your eye the way the long whip does.

Looks great. Much more subtle. I'll respond back about radio signal. I don't use XM, but I'll try using it.

Looks great. So the stock unit just unscrews out for replacement? Thanks.

Just got mine and installed it yesterday. Stock one just unscrews off, you pick the right little screw for the new antenna that comes in the pack and screw it back on. As far as reception the only difference I noticed is there is a radio station that I like to listen to and it doesn't pick up well at my house. With the new "stubby" one it was actually coming in pretty clear where I live. That could just be the way the weather was yesterday or not. But it deff. works "as good" as the stock one and is half the length.

I got mine in the aluminum. I get similar radio reception. Definitely a nice addition.

Just had to remove that bottlebrush the beancounters stuck on and replace it with a Blackstubby. Works good.

I bought a 1 1/2" one. I listen to XM all of the time and haven't been more than 20 miles from the local stations so I don't know the range for FM.

Does it really matter that much? It appears we G8 owners are getting desperate for modifications. I am afraid if I change to this type antenea I will not be able to BEAM UP.

Got mine in the mail. Just took one of those rubber jar opening pad things and unscrewed the old, screwed on the new. Done...

It was very anti-climactic. Glad it's on there.. wish it didn't have any pointed antenna, but this is better than before. That is for sure. Had a coworker even mention it before I said anything about it.

After you install it, is there a tiny little gap between the bottom of it and the antenna base?

I noticed on the stock one, it is recessed, so it mounts flush. I bought a different brand, and there is a small gap. Wanted to know if the carccessory one was the same?

Is the customer service with Carccesory generally bad? I received a confirmation email that I ordered it but no tracking or anything. When I emailed to see if they could provide I instantly received an email saying the my email could not be delivered and was administratively denied. Ordered it two days ago. Any one else have similar interactions?

I wouldn't worry. I got my antenna from them no problems, but they don't really update you, the customer, like I am accustomed to.

I think I got a confirmation, and later a shipping notice. But never a tracking number.

I have to agree I bought mine a month ago and the reception gets a little shady when I get outside of my area.I like the way it looks but I will still hold on to my stock antenna if I am doing any long distance driving.

Like any other helically wound antenna it appears to function, equally until you get into the fringe area, then the longer antenna shines..so you can be in an area further away than the stubby, and still recieve things fine.

Also there are shadow areas where the stubby looses too, an example, the signal bounces of off something and you recieve it..you are in the shadow of a hill etc. sure there is error correction, and delayed broadcast to cover signal loss but still the above applies..

You wanna send me all your old antennas ? I'll take 'em !!! send them to me collect or in the mail I'll send you back a dollar.

So, my wife was right. Bigger is better.
