The 62 Catalina 2+2 tri-power 421 did a 4.3 0-60 way back when for one of the car magazines. I think it had a "special" tune, whatever that means. Not stock I take it. Still no match for a GXP on the open road.

That would be my opinion. I would think on a drag strip any of the old classic muscle cars would give a G8 GT or GXP a run for the money, and would even walk over the GT in particular. But put them toe to toe on a road course or an oval I think the old muscle car would get eaten alive. Shoot on an aggressive road course with more twists and turns versus straight line travel I think even a V6 G8 or a V6 Camaro (fellow Zeta platform) would make a muscle car work VERY hard - assuming stock setup versus stock setup. Drum brakes on all four corners shod with bias ply tires going around Limerock or Laguna, scary, scary, scary.

Apparently the value of the G8 GT doesn't matter to those guys. They must make too much. G8 GT + 10k in mods FTW!!!!!!

I thought the same thing. The GXP is certainly awesome but the extra performance comes at too steep a price given how often you will actually be able to use it (unless racing). The GT is plenty quick off the line versus all the SUVs and mini vans I go up against and I'm sure I'll get enough tickets in the GT on the open road in spite of the fewer horses it has. I just couldn't justify the GXP extra expense when I was deciding between the two. Now my Solstice is a different story. With its 177 HP four cylinder engine it could use a turbo but the GXP wasn't available in 2006 when I purchased it (so an after market is high on the upgrade list).

Right on -- let's talk performance and handling instead of "hyper"miling cars that have zero performance.

Many of the old muscle cars were in the 13s, just like the G8GT. I'd put a GT up against most of the old cars, stock for stock.

Giving the G8 (GXP) the props it deserves! I wonder at times if I should have waited for one, or the Camaro, but I will just live with what I have :)
