Received my new Eastwood Fender Roller this week. Rolled my fenders this afternoon. New fender roller cost $245. delivered on ebay. Bought 1000 deg. heat gun locally for less than $25.

Fender rolling needed to be done because I have 35 offset Breytons with Bridgestone 275's on rear. While it appeared that both rear tires had hit the fenders, only the drivers side tire was cut, with noticeable bending of the fender lip towards the tire at the 2 o'clock position.

Before starting I recommend watching the fender rolling video on Eastwood's website.

1 - Put rear of car on jack stands. This needs to be done due to fender roller moving back and forth on wheel hub. Rear Posi-traction requires both wheels off ground.

2 - Removed first rear tire and mounted fender roller with included washers. Make sure that the inside of the fender lip is free of dirt and debris.

3 - Heated fender with heat gun on high setting. Since it was sunny and 86 deg. the fender easily heated and stayed warm. Lip needs to be hot to touch to prevent paint from cracking.

4 - Immediately found out that our fenders do not have a perfect curve. This meant that I had to roll each fender in three distinct areas. Started with roller almost horizontal on lip. As the fender lip started bending, I slowly adjusted the roller angle to nearly vertical as the lip bent back against the fender liner.

5 - Did the rear 1/3 of each fender first, then the top, and finally the front 1/3. I had to finish the last part of the front with a plastic block and a hammer.

6 - At the rear where the cladding attaches to the fender, I used the same block and hammer to bend the screw flange slightly upward and towards fender.

Overall time was around an hour on first fender and somewhat less on the latter because I had figured out how to operate the roller, and knew where to start.

The end result allowed the actual fender to be slightly flared outward in the area where my tire pulled the lip down when it rubbed and caught the fender.
This is at the 2 o'clock position on the drivers side, and 10 0'clock on passengers side when one faces the tire. THIS WAS MY CHOICE... I could have avoided doing the extra flaring by using the roller less in this area. Because the flare starts and ends gradually, it is hardly noticeable.

Project was not difficult, except for heat.

I DID NOT TAKE PICTURES - TOO HOT!!!! Eastwood site has video that is better than any pictures I could have taken. There are other sites with videos and pix.

Painted rear brake calipers at same time, which added an extra hour to the job.

Bought the roller, rather than renting one, because I have another G8 and a GTO, and son has a GTO.

My new career?????

BURNOUTS HERE I COME!!!!!!:woohoo::woohoo:

Good work, now let my sister-in-law who lives down in Florida grab that roller from you and I'll send it back with some rental money.

Unfortunately, Roller is in Iowa this summer.

Will roll 08' G8 when I get back to Naples. Then it will be available.

There is a guy on LS1Tech that rents his roller and heat gun for (I think) $60 plus shipping back to him. Rent it a few times and it's paid for.

Something to consider...

Congrats. I bought one from tire rack, not too hard to do. I have the same wheels, started with 275s but thought they didn't look quite wide enough for the 10'' rims so i switched to 285s and like them better. They have only rubbed once so far but i don't think i flared panels quite as much as you.

Where in NW IL are you located?

Mine would "zing" when driven thru dips at an angle. Only had issues with tire cutting when I really got on it and had a full sized spare and jack in tirewell (75 lbs). Pulled fender lip down a bit which is why tire got cut. Car was driven loaded back from FL by wife and no tire damage.

Monmouth, south of Quad cities.
Mine hit on a huge dip, bottomed out front and back but mines lowered with Eibachs. Could have been something else hitting because i saw no marks on the outside of the tires, just heard a noise.

you know it, his were 275/35-19

I'm kind of hoping he was lowered but I can't find any threads of his that says he was, so, we might have to roll some fenders.

My sisters friend (down in Charlotte) owns an Truck accessory install shop. I can call her to ask if he's got a roller for you to use if we have to do this.

I can tell you that even lowered with a 44mm offset in back, 275/35/19 I rubbed very very little. Only on very hard turns and bumps.

I saw on the other board one guy with the Breyton 20's that said he had no rub unless there were 2 adults in the back seat. He was at stock height.

After reading about 20 threads on different websites about fender rolling, I'm not concerned at all about doing it. Looks like it'll be a fun little project :)

Do you know the name of that guy's shop? That would be great if he had one I could rent, if needed.

We're looking at a 35mm offset with 275/30/20 in the back. Geoff is planning on lowering his, but it'll be a while before I get around to doing that. I get my wheels Wednesday or Thursday, so I'm hoping I don't have much rub with my car at stock height.

pretty sure you're going to rub with a 35mm offset. FYI I had my fenders rolled professionally and the paint cracked on the inside lip so I had to have the inside sanded and painted, it can happen no matter how slow they go, especially with our crappy paint.

Hopefully this wont happen, but luckily it's on the inside so it wont be too noticeable.

I really think I'd rather cut the lip down instead of rolling... I know me and I don't trust myself LOL

I talked to body shop that did my roll and I asked about cutting them and he had this long explanation about how you don't want to cut it. I can't remember it all but it came down to rust and integrity of the fender if I remember right. Someone else might have a better explanation.

Well you paint the edge when you are done so rust shouldn't be a concern.

I understand why they have a lip, but people have been cutting fender lips for years. May not be advised, but neither is modding when you have a factory warranty LOL

I had my fenders cut. They were cut, sanded, and covered with rust enamel to prevent corrosion.

From what I've read about other people who have cut there's, cutting the fenders is fine as long as you do something to prevent the corrosion like you mentioned. Also you need to make sure you don't leave a sharp edge on the fender, incase your tires still rub. It seems like grinding away the fender is another option, that may be a little easier than cutting.

Just got one of mine done, what a Bitch. I'll have to heat the other side a little more because I did have some cracking on the bend. Good thing I bought touch up paint...

Good right up. Now I'll watch the video again...
