Has anyone (G8 GT owners) painted their lower front grill and/or foglight grill/covers to match their paint? Like the G8 GT Firehawks are? Just curious, if so post pics! I'm wanting to do that to my White Hot GT

I was considering, but seeing my car had to be re-painted again cause the paint didn't match it might be hard to do.

On the white hot and red ones, it might be easier to match. Post pics when you do it.

I am thinking about doing the same thing. I have White Hot and have used the Krylon plastic paint on my Grand Prix to paint engine pay components. After 4-1/2 years no flaking, cracking, peeling, bubbling or any other issues. I figure even if it chips it would be easy to fix.

BUT - well - I want someone else to go first to see what it looks like ;-)

Am I the only one who thinks the flat black paint looks awesome? I love that.

Cool. Thought I had seen something like that before. I wonder how white would look?

So will the Krylon white plastic paint work - or is too much of a contrast and will it look like ass. Does anyone know?

I had a local guy do the painting for me. He used BASF color match paint. The local paint shop makes the paint in spray cans, so thats how he painted them. But the process was that hard for the lower grills just sand them down to give them some texture so the primer can grab and then painted and added 6 coats of clear so that way they wont cheap that easy.

As for the grills. I am not sure .. I do know he had to do them several times because when he went to wet sand them to make them nice and smooth and not slightly orange peeled.. the paint would rub off.

They are actually painted the color of the rims, not the body but the color is very close to the MGM.

I agree! The black matte combination is unique. I wonder how that would look black on black? I am still considering black pin striping on my car next year.

Take a look at peterg22000's post here: Custom G8 paintwork (http://www.forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=8816)

my work is NOT done with krylon.. I used BASF paint (same as the red car earlier in this thread)

if you use the Krylon, it would likely end up looking too bright.

Yeah, I wasn't exactly saying that Krylon is what you used, just to look at what a quality paint job would look like on a white car! (Just what he was asking for :) )

When I got mine done, I wanted around my fog light grilles painted too, but when he painted them, he said the paint just peeled right off. He said he had a guy from PPG coming in, I still need to give him a call back...

I had the same issue with PPG paint. I got some red to match mixed up in a rattle can and painted mine. When I took my masking off the paint peeled up in guant sections. I didn't rough the surface up at all but I know if was clean and free of oils. I may do it again later but will let a professional try it next time.

Your flat black looks nice though!

Did you use an adhesion promotor prior to spraying the plastic?
