I've entered my G8 into the Indy HP shootout on July 5th.
Just ordered my drag radials this morning.
So.....just wondering, who is going to have a time slip on the board 1st. Me or Charlie? :)

Are they going to prep the track or leave it slick and dangerous like they do on test and tune night?

LOL
If it's like the last time, I'm going to need a bumper car to race in.
Drag radials are mounted!

My G8 is as ready as I can get it for Sundays Horse Power Shootout.
Drag radials have been tested, and the tune updated. Just got to showup now.
I'm posting a slip, no matter what happens.

Now it can told Dept. Tuesday when I tested the tires, my 1st race was against a Viper. He ran a 12.7 to my 13.06
Some young guys came over and were surprised that I was running close to him.

That would have been a cool race to see. A Viper only running a 12.7, that is too bad for him! :D

Kick ass Ray! Don't forget to try nailing it from idle too.

Same day, same track, same time basically, we had very very close runs!

60' 2.001
330 5.514
1/8 8.381
mph 86.00
1000' 10.831
1/4 12.905
mph 109.84

We were talking about how badass it would have been to been lined up !!!

And guess what, that little bit of the difference was what knocked me out of pony class on the bubble!!! :nud: lol!

Not bad Ray.

Did you use your drag radials? Leave off idle or brake stall?

I would have expected your 60' to be lower.

-Ray-
07-07-2009, 12:34 AM
Yeas. drag radials were on. Had trouble getting them warm though. Had to spin them longer than 10 sec's to produce smoke. Track didn't have any prep. I left from an idle. It seems to lay down at first, then wakes up in 1st gear.

When you are spinning them, how are you doing it?

Try getting them spinning in M1 , then floor it, shift to 2nd. Take them up to 5500 to 6000 or so.

Shifting to 3rd wouldn't be out of line.

Just make sure you floor it, don't try riding the pedal at 3 or 4 grand. Get them spinning fast.

I would try holding the brake at around 2000 to 2500 rpm to launch...

-Ray-

Every time I stalled it at the line I spun. Hitting it from an idle worked the best for me.

Nice times Ray. A little better on the 60fter and you will hit the 12.70s. Once those tires wear about 60% it will spin less also.

I don't want to thread hi-jack, so I'll probably end up starting my own thread.... BUT....

I'm heading to the track (Stanton, MI) tomorrow for test & tune from 4:30pm - 9:30pm. The weather should be really good (just like today). It's about 70 degrees out, slight breeze, and low humidity.

I'm using my ET Street Drag Radials (finally!) for the 1st time. :)

I've been doing my homework on launch techniques, and burn out preps.

What does the water box do? (Besides make the tires wet?) * humor *

...

-Ray-
07-07-2009, 09:27 AM
Good luck Mike.

Drive around the water box. When you back up to get your drag radials wet, you'll be directed on how far to back up. Watch the guy who stands near the tree. He'll back you up, and then pull you out of the water so you can do your burn out.

wreckwriter
07-07-2009, 09:40 AM
I drive right through the box, open my door and look behind me. As soon as the back tire is about a foot past the water I shut the door and start my burnout. Brakes on, M2, run it up to about 5000 and get the tires going good then release brakes and go for a couple more seconds moving forward.

Thanks Ray & Tom........

I'll probably watch a couple of runs as well, just to see what the track people want, and to see what others are doing too.

Does the water just help keep the tires spinning?

Yea, just makes it easier to get them spinning. Don't spin in the water box, you'll get water up in your fenders and it will drip down.

Thanks Tom. Yep, I remember Roy (and probably others) saying just to rotate the tires once or twice in the water box, then pull forward to do the burnout......

Maybe its just a culture thing here in Indiana, but everyone that does not have bias ply front skinnies goes around the water box and backs up.

<shrug> Maybe so :) Nothing wrong with doing that, just not something I do or that I've seen many others do.

I always drive around the water box, since that's what most of the racers here do. If I had skinny's, I drive through it.
Some racers here will get upset if someone drove through it.
