View Full Version : Pypes Violator vs. Magnaflow Axleback

An axleback will be my first mod.

I like the established reputation of the Magnaflow but, based on posted sound samples, I don't think it will add enough "throat" to the car.

Leaning towards the Pypes "Violator" package.

Any input from you cats that have either is appreciated!

I really like the Violators. On a stock G8 they have a deep muscle car sound. On mine thats highly modded they are loud, but little to no drone at 60 like the Flo's or MFs.

+1 on the Pypes. Everyone that has heard my car likes how it sounds. Enough rumble that you know something is there at idle and floor it and they sound beautiful.

I would pass on the axlebacks, and just add some American Racing Long Tube Headers, and keep the stock axle back. It might be what you are looking for with no drone.....?

Then you'd add HP, TQ, & sound and not just sound.... :twocents:

I'm happy with my pypes. At time's I think they MAY be a bit loud but then when I see people looking back to see what that sweet sound is, I like them.

No air hammer needed. You can do this with a basic socket set but it goes quicker if you have air ratchets.

Anyone have a sound clip of how the headers sound with the stock exhaust?

Definitely, minimal tools are needed. It took me about 20 minutes to put on the magnaflow axleback with hand tools and I didn't bother to jack the car up. Theres plenty of room to get to what you need to get to.

Who has them on back order? I ordered from LMP.

I ordered from JEGS last week. Called yesterday to confirm a ship date and was told me they were on backorder from Pypes; to ship the 11th of July.

I then called LMP. If they had sytems in inventory and could ship immediately, I was going to cancel the JEGS order. The price is identical.

LMP said they had no inventory units and would have to call to Pypes to determine availability.

I then called Pypes to ask if they knew of any other parts house with inventory and they said no; the 11th of July was the best I could do.

I kept the order with JEGS.

Hey guys
Just installed the Pypes axle-back tonight and here are some of my thoughts.
I am not a mechanic nor have I ever claimed to be one. I am however mechanically inclined. The install took about 1 hour and the instructions were not sufficient. For those of you who did this install in 15min. You Rock!!
The bracket that holds the tips up needs to be removed from the car. I was not able to just slide the muffler towards the front of the car like the instructions said. So once I realized I had to take off this bracket, the removal was a breeze. But when I went to install the new muffler the hangers were bent and it took quite a bit of muscle to straighten them out enough where the muffler wouldn't hit the side of the diffuser.
It looks like I will have to do some adjusting because the tips are not in the same position as one another. This is a PITA in my opinion. For a do-it-yourselfer like myself, I was hoping I could just put them on and I wouldn't have to adjust anything.
The sound is really nice and deep. Charlie was right on the money with this set up if you ask me. I have posted two videos for sound purposes.

No they don't. I have changed the mufflers a couple times on the driveway without a lift and just undoing the flange bolts. The stock muffs are big heavy suckers but you can get them out with a little manuvering.

I like my Pypes too, but there a bit too much noise cruising on the highway 70-80mph especially with AFM.

i bought the pypes violators based on charlies opinion of them. They were very well priced and sound excellent. Oh yeah, they're really shiny too:)

Install was a breeze, only need a socket set to remove the old garbage and put on the pypes. No lift needed and i was done in 20min maximum.

I think they sound great, and i have them with the arh 1 7/8 system. I really have no drone over 50+. A+++ in my book.

I know I've heard Charlies, but his has a lot more into it than just that. It can be louder just not sound like a nascar stock car.

I'll be getting AR Headers installed in Sept. and will drive with the stock muffs for awhile, then maybe consider the Pypes Violators. a little bit quieter than this:

after hearing both of these axle back systems with headers I'm almost leaning towards the slightly quieter magnaflows but them being $100's more still has me finding excuses for why pypes with headers really aren't "that" loud...

I havent had any issues with PYPES tips. If you tweak the hangers the mufflers sit correctly. I havent put one system of any brand on that fit perfect just slapping it on. ALL required a little tweaking to be within a 1/8 or less per side.
