Just crawled out from under my GXP... Just like on my '06 GTO.

I got my CAGS eliminator off eBay last week from Auto Wiring Solutions for $10 + $2.25 shipping. It even came with a zip tie and color instructions. It's the same one as the T-56 trans. Yeah, I know it can be removed with a tune, but it's one less thing to draw attention...

I jacked up the left front (there's a notch in the plastic rocker moldings to put the jack). Got it high enough to slide under. 5 minute job, including selecting a beer.

Hope the pictures help encourge other M6 GXP'ers.

It's wonderful not to have that damn thing picking gears for you isn't it? Now with the tune you won't get the light on the dash either.

Which tune removes the 1-4 shift?

What does this do??? Or what does it stop the M6 from doing??

i think around town or just putting around it allows you to go from 1st directly to 4th gear, helps with mpgs i assume

Dont quote me on this but I think If you are driving normal it will make you shift 1-4

Yes, it just doesn't allow it, it forces it to go from 1-4 under lighter throttle driving. It's a feature that's been around for quite a while now, on similar setups. Essentially an emissions, fuel economy, etc. thing, but definitely can annoy driver's who aren't used to it with their stick.

So from the factory on the GXP it will make you shift from 1 to 4 and skip 2 and 3 under light throttle??

I often do the 1-4 shifts anyway, but I find it annoying at times since the forced 1-4 shift can catch you off guard (even after 2 GTOs and now the GXP). Then you have this momentary hesitation as you're trying to yank it into second, only to have go to 3rd or 4th. Once you have the feature bypassed (with the connector), the dash indicator still lights up, but going to 4th is pleasantly optional... The tune route probably removes the indicator as well.

what's really stupid is the fact that CAGS is for the purpose of fuel economy and yet the GXP still has GG tax. should have just left it off instead of annoying everyone.

There is a dash indicator when you are forced from 1st to 4th?? I have about 2200 miles on my GXP and have had the skip shift kick in many times, but have never seen any indicator on the dash!! Is my car defective??

Yea, it's defective because it causes you to do the 1-4 shift. :)

Seriously, it a momentary message on the DIC that goes away as soon as you make the shift. The only time I have seen it is when I intentionally stayed fixated for the message. Usually the "binding" in the shift makes me look at the shifter... haven't seen the message or had the skip shift since my VMS tune.

After having many big block 4 speed 4.xx geared cars over the past 25 years skip shifting has become natural for me as second gear was just not necessary unless max acceleration was in order. What I do not like is the fact that the forced first to fourth in the GXP feels a little to much of a stretch! Always felt to me that it was on the verge of lugging and I knew it could not be that great during break in. So within two days of picking her up I installed a skip shift eliminator I had lieing around from a CTS-V. I still skip shift a majority of the time but usually first to third as it's more a habit from the 4 speed days and it's my choice and not forced on me. Best 20 bucks spent in a long time.

There is a small 1-4 icon on the instrument cluster. If you take off slow and try to shift to second you "should" see it.

It should light up Green. I believe the owners book states under 21% throttle it will skip shift. So I just give mine a quick blip of the throttle and usually just go to 2ND. It is a weird feeling when you pull down and hit the guide plate in to 4Th.

There is an RPO code for the Skip Shift:

JL5 - CONTROL MANUAL TRANS, FIRST TO FOURTH GEAR SKIP SHIFT

strangely, it's not on my SPID sticker...

Thanks, xp800, for the pictures of the eliminator install.
