WTFMF? I went to do the bass amp mod this morning and when I lifted the trunk cover out, I can't believe what I saw, a white powdery substance (and it wasn't blow) at first I thought the battery corroded, looks like Aussie mud. lol Any ideas how it got there during assembly?

It wiped right out with a wet rag.

Well, my fiend, it looks as if several pairs of 'roos got locked in the trunk overnite and got a bit friskey in there. Usually they wipe it out with a wet rag.

Bad, bad 'roos! :p

Not to worry, it is salt from the waves washing over your car on the way over from OZ.

Maybe the original battery had a problem and they've replaced it?

I don't think so,it was all over both sides of the trunk.

Oh. What's with the slight rusty look in the corner? Did that wipe out too?

Looks to me that when the car came into the dealer they power washed the jams. Thus the inners of the trunk got wet. They didn't dry it thus creating sediment in the trunk. Basically, hard water.

If you live in NY and drove around a lot in the winter time I say it is salt from the seal around the trunk that let the weather in.

lol, I just got it in Feb. and no winters will see her,I got a 4x4 for that. It was a fine powder like substance, not salt or battery acid, maybe I'll send a pic to Crazy Paul to see what color kangaroo crap is.

Man this sounds like The French Connection. But as I am getting ready to adjust the subwoofer amp. I may check mine too. Will let you know. If this is a possible problem involving a water leak, what would be the steps to ID it. And what might be the corrective measures other than the obvious, tub and shower sealent. But I think you got the Penquins car, he ordered the pool as an option.

I see what looks like dried water drops on the side of the battery... Are they not?

It DOES look like dried acid to me too...

Dried Acid Gets My Vote. Dont the cars come in with something diconnected on the battery. Perhaps one of the highly trained folks forgot to disconnect efore the car shipped out OR when they were doing the reconnects. My bet it was a defective battery.

OK just to be different I'm going to guess that the white powder has come from the trunk cover material breaking down.
I had a cheap door mat (made in Asia ??) in my house that dumped a big pile of fine white powder onto my tiles. The mat looked fine but the spongy stuff inside decomposed.
I also say that because your powder looks to be in good quantity spread around in the trunk on the right hand side and not necessarily only around the battery area.
