I changed the filter and fluid on my mustang today. Refilled the fluid and like an idiot didnt pay attention or check how much I was putting in and completely overfilled it. Do I need to drain a little out or will it be ok?

How much overfull? An Overfilled trans is never a good thing.

Uh like so full it started coming out of the dipstick and a bunch came out of the top of the tranny:( I guess I'll drain some out and try to get it to the right amount. Good thing I bought a few extra quarts.
Out of curiosity why is it bad for the tranny to be overfilled?

Uh 8-9ish. I looked up that it held 12 qts so I was just pouring away talking to my brother. I didnt think about the fact the converter probably holds a bunch that didnt drain with the rest until it was too late.

You are 4-5 QTs overfull. You can blow the front seal in the trans by being overfull.

The fluid won't have any place to expand. It puts pressure on the seals until one blows.
