My tire man told me that 275 40s would fit on my stock rims in back, if this is true i will do it. Any ideas of this being possible, if so y arent more people doing it?

Thanks charlie,

charlie!

Your tire man is wrong. Don't do it.

That tire is for a 9.5 wheel. You might get it on a 9, not an 8 safely.

Oh, snap!
Actually, the Tire Rack lists 275/40/18 as an optional size for the rears.
There is always a lot of interest in stuffing the largest meats under the rear.

Anyone who has unsuccessfully tried? My math also says that this combo should not work...

255's is the biggest I'd run on a 8inch rim....so your stock 18's or stock 19's should be 255/45 or 255/40 at the largest without going up to a wider rim. I'm running 255's.

That optional listing is for a 9.5" wide rim. Not for the 8" stock rim.

Ahhh, yes. Very good grasshopper. My oversight.
I actually trial fitted a 10.5" rim yesterday. It was not pretty. I'm thinking a 9.5 is as large as will fit without rolling fenders. Love the look, though. Ended up with the 295/35/18s on the back of the Camaro.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

;)

Nitto says you should be using a 9 to 11" wide rim for that size 555.
