How do you replace the factory, front and center dome lights (No sunroof)? I'm assuming the center dome light is as simple as pulling down on the entire housing (Dome light lense cover + trim)...??? Is this correct?

Is the lense cover for the front dome light removed seperately or do you have to pull down the entire overhead console?

Thank in advance! I hating asking such a "simple" question but I know I'm not the only one who was wondering. :stooges:

According to someone on the "other" forum, it's best to remove the entire overhead console.

1) Remove the Torx screw located in the sunglass compartment.

2) Pull down on the overhead console @ the front (Closest to windshield) and work your way back.

The dome light lense cover can be removed w/o removing the overhead console but you are likely to break the clips that secure the lense cover.

To remove the center/rear dome light, simply pull down on the entire housing.

Hope that helps. I'll be replacing my dome lights shortly and will make a write up w/ pictures. :)

I take it the LED's in the dome lights are just direct swaps and need nothing else to work correctly like every other car I've done this way? I just wanna be sure so I don't get pissed.:notworking:

AlldataDIY says:

Vehicle » Lighting and Horns » Dome Lamp » Service and Repair
Important: For servicing of the LED lighting (ambient lighting) replacement of the complete assembly will be necessary as the LED is not a serviceable item.

This is just FYI - let us know what you find if you do take it out.

It's just a matter of replacing the stock bulb. It's already been done. :)

Or am I missing something here....LOL

Yes, you just replace the stock bulb with a 194 led. The rear dome easily pops out. The front you have to remove the torx 20 screw from the sunglass holder area and then pull the unit down (may have to work it out with a flat head). I'm still not sure what color to do mine - red or blue.

There is a rear dome in the '09's? Maaaan. I hate not having light back there. That's one of my biggest complaints and my passenger complaints, no light.

Yes, there is a rear dome but I wish they had rear reading lights as well.

I would like to convert the front single style dome light to the single with two map lights just as the sunroof cars have. Anybody done this yet? I can't stand lighting up the whole interior when just the front passenger needs light.

Either that or get a set of flashlights! I was surprised the car did not come with reading lights.

So anyone try those instructions yet? i asked a service guy that knows this stuff pretty well and he told me you have to get under the roof material from the front to get it out, he said it's not that complicated and that he would do it for me if i wanted. if i can do it without moving the roof frabic i'll go for it, i have the lights sitting here, i just don't want to bend that roof material at all, from what i've been told that stuff leaves real bad creases.

I'm posting as a DIY

Ok... so i went for it and it took a whole 5 minutes including a piss break. Took longer uploading the pictures. The rear one gets removed the same as the front except theres no screw. It's a little hard getting the rear back on because the roofs collapses, hitting it works better than pushing it when you try and get it back on. The LEDs i used are so freaking big the push on they clear plastic.

This is the screw you need to remove, it's in between the light buttons and the the drop down cubby

Your gonna need a star shaped wrench to get that screw out like this one

Once you have removed the screw just pull down the whole console from the front, you don't need to remove the clear cover to get to the light bulb.

I went a bit overboard and stuck a high density 13 LED light in the front and rear, this might be a bit too bright and cause to much glare when driving at night, i'll let you guys know if i decide to go with one of the lights with less LEDs
