View Full Version : Monster Meats Installed! Traction Anyone?

Our mission was to squeeze every possible millimeter of tread under our flagship car, which already has the Pedders Track II suspension installed. The wheels are CCW SP510s and the tires are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. We used black McGard lug nuts and wheel locks. Final wheel and tire sizing is as follows:

Fronts: P265/35ZR19 on 19 x 9.5" +34 mm.
Rears: P305/30ZR19 on 19 x 11" +54 mm.

We’re not completely finished yet. As soon as our GXP brakes arrive, we’re going to paint the rotors black, and the calipers red.

Check out how small the stock P245/40WR19 tires look in comparison to the rears.

Three modifications are required on the rear if you want to get this radical. First, you’ll need to trim the plastic liner inside each fender. Second, there’s a metal clip in each fenderwell that holds the brake line in place. Remove each clip, rotate 90° and reinstall. And third, have your fenders rolled if you ever plan to have passengers (or drivers :p) in the back seat.

Right rear fenderwell before modification:

After modification:

I want to thank John and Melissa from CCW for working with me on this project. They were very patient with me when I told them my vision, and they didn’t give up on the concept even though several test fits were required. :)

WoW! That should help traction a bit.

You'd get more traction out of a good set of DRs even if they aren't as wide. Too bad they don't come in 19s. Those look good though for sure.

lol someone had to be that guy

Just checked CCW's website and if I'm reading it correctly the price for the rims is $2800.

Not bad considering that's what you'll pay for HSV rims and the CCW's are wider and I'll bet lighter.

Hmmmmm...

Perfect sizes - I read about that staggered sizing with 19's on rims-n-tires.com
That's my goal - 1 to 2 years out for that cost but at least now I have the exact visual.
They look Fantastic! Great Job!

what does fender rolling mean and what does it do?

what does fender rolling mean and what does it do?

Rolls the lip of the fender up and out of the way of the tire side wall. Gives you more "interior" room for wider wheels :)

This needs to be professionally done, as the paint will crack.

We bought to fender rolling tool from tire rack, works very well, detailed instructions. You heat the paint with a heat gun so it won't crack.

We wanted maximum performance, and 19s should outperform 20s. Plus, there are a lot more 19" tire choices, so we could get the perfect fitment I was looking for. :)

SpeedRacerX

I love em but why not 20" ?

Wanted "maximum performance" and "squeeze every millimeter" which would indicate getting the widest possible tread patch in there.

If you go with 20's, about the best you're gonna get into the rear is: 275/35-20 on about a 9 1/2" wide rim.

19's: 305's like Intense did.

21's: maybe 295/25-21 on 10 1/2" wide rims with proper offset.

Mine haven't hit the fenders yet, but I was afraid they would if I had passengers in the back seat and went over bumps.

I doubt the fenders would need to be rolled at all if the car wasn't lowered. ;)

Check out the fitment calculator on rims-n-tires.com. For 19's, but with only a 9.5" to 10" wide rim, it shows a "guaranteed" fitment of 305-30/19. That "should be" without rolling the fenders.

Same here - about a year out for those funds but def on my list. I'm addicted to that look!

thats actually what I was wondering also. Most wheels do not like to clear the inside edge of those calipers.. I would know...had to sell mine because of it

The wheels will likely not clear the GXP calipers. I believe my GXP was the first fitment for CCW, so they now have the correct offset measurement for GXP's (or Brembo brake clearance). My original CCW set did not clear the brembo calipers.
