Say I were to encounter a car of equal speed say at 40mph. Is 3rd gear where I want to be in Manual mode? I would guess 2nd gear but it seems flooring it from 2nd gear in M mode would present a strong possibilty of hitting the rev limiter if you dont react good.
Yeah I know roll racing is kinda ricer and ive never had a roll race even in my GTP. I ask only to know where I would have the most power?.

Just skip manual mode and nail it. You'll do better.
As for the original question, I'd want 2nd.

Right...but at 40 mph normal driving your already in 4th gear so then I would have to wait (not bad) for the downshift and possibly fall back. Just wondering if being in Manual mode would be better for that situation.

Guess a lot depends on your trans tune, how long it takes to downshift.

That is what I feel my sweet spot is. 40 roll in M2, nail it and quickly move M-D-S. It takes about 1 second to rev limit and about .7 sec to move from M to S. This is all provided your arm or head don't fly into the back seat when you punch it. :woohoo:

Whenever I roll race I ALWAYS keep it in manual mode to start the run. Even with a tune the downshift time is just too much to just give up. I have raced quite a few modded C5 vettes and bolt-on C5 Z's and whenever I am up against them on the highway I always take them seriously enough to make sure I am in the right gear for the run.

+1. From 40, 2nd - manual. Nail it, then go back to normal mode quickly to keep it off of the limiter.

yeah, but you also roll in manual all of the time. It's all about knowing how much earlier to upshift :)

Yeah I was messing around on a empty road the other day and found that 35-40 in 2nd is strong...
