View Full Version : Back to the track this week.....

Well, it's been long enough since my last trip out to the drag strip. So my local track in Stanton, MI has test and tune this Wednesday 5/20 (from 4:30pm - 9:30pm), and also this Friday 5/22 (from 5pm - 10pm).

Although I still do not have my drag radials & tires. I am going to give it a go again on the crappy Goodyear RSAs - 18" :puke:

I may even try launching in 2nd gear a few times, because 1st gear melts the tires for the 1st 90 feet.

Obviously I know I need drag radials & I am getting them, but in the mean time, I've gotta try to improve on my 12.65 :nud:

I'm not even sure how much torque management I have in my current tune? I may have to go to get a ECM/TCM re-tune. I'm not sure if it will help?

Anyway, I think I will most likely go on this Friday's session.

Good luck Mike, you'll need it on those tires. I'm hoping to have slicks by the end of the week, and hopefully hit the track next week.

Let us know what you run at the track. Good luck & talk to you later!

Roy:

It's funny that you say that, because I'm kind of between jobs right now. (The wife definitely brings home the bacon). And I don't start until the end of June. I was really thinking on coming out to Maryland to either MIR, Capitol, or the other place that you, Robert, & Reggie go to.

If you guys are going to go to the track between now & the end of June, definitely PM me & let me know.

We usually go to Capitol or Cecil. PLus another track 75/80 just reopened. I also like to go to ATCO[NJ] every once in awhile. The air is always good there...maybe 2 to 3 tenths.

Let me see if I can get some guys together for WED 5/27. Cecil has test and tunes on WED nights. Would next WED be good for you ??

1/8 mile isn't bad. I wasn't running a 1/4 mile. I didn't have a helmet so I had to back peddle.
I thought 13.7 was pretty good considering it was only 80 mph.

Why didn't you run it out the back door on the last pass? If they told you to go home, it wouldn't have made a difference.

To mount some MT ET Street Drag Radials on them......

I didn't get a chance to go this week (Friday 5/22). I'm going to go in the next week or so. Maybe on a Saturday or Sunday - and I'm going to see if I can meet up with Jesse aka BigWillys58 from Cadilac, MI.

BTW, how much air so I need in the MT Streets on the way to the track?

Good luck Ray! Cut some sub 2.0 60 foot times and let the chips fall where they may! You've got wheels & tires now..... Awesome!

I just ordered my MT ET Street Radials from Summit Racing today. They will be here before this Friday! :)

P.S. - Last night I went to go smoke a Parliment in my driveway and it was in the upper 50's last night! I was like.... "Perfect weather for the track!"

Good luck! And let us know how you do!

I didn't come close. My best 60' was 1.95 and I ran 13.06.
Tires are too short. It was shifting into 4th, or hitting the rev limiter 1/2 sec. before the traps. I'll need Kirk to adjust my tune.
I also spun with 18 psi.
Zero track prep, but I had fun and met more people.

All that rubber on the track and any "dripping" get really greasy if there is no prep work done.

The street is very grippy because it has a coarse surface.

try it. 2 reasons: less spin (at least for me) and since you need to keep your attention on the tree you'll never get consistent launches without a 2-step by stalling it up.

A lot of this info has been posted already. You can imagine what it would be like if it needed to be re-posted every time someone asked.
If you have 80 runs on another vehicle, I'm sure you'll find the best methos for your car.
When I bought my G8, I had never raced down a strip before.
