Apple user here..... just wanted to see what everyone is running and why. I have owned and used both and i like the programming and reliability of apple much more. there is virtually no gaming options, but other than that, i much prefer it.

Apple! I have a PC at home but I also have a Mac Book Pro. I won't buy another PC. I will use Parallels on my Apples just like I do with this one.

I LOVE my Apple devices.

If a Mac didn't cost so damn much I'd consider it. I've seen the Macs in action and they are pretty good considering you can switch to windows applications.

PC. I work in hardware support and have a pretty decent PC I built not too long ago.
Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 8gb OCZ Ram, 850 Watt Antec TruQuattro Power supply, Antec 900 case, 640gb WD Caviar, SB Audigy 2, and ATI Radeon 4890 @900mhz (stock O/C, haven't messed with it yet).

Everyone always asks me why I want to mod my cars, and I tell them its just like overclocking a computer, only more expensive!

PC here. Apple products are just too over priced. I am guilty of buying Ipods and want an Iphone someday, I just refuse to spend a ton on a Mac. Besides, if Macs were as popular as PCs they would have just as many problems with viruses and software issues. They ARE much better for audio and video editing though!

PC User, also work in IT.

Don't like Macs. PC are stable as hell, it's just that if you put a PC into an average user's hands, it all falls apart.

Been running Vista since it came out, ran it on a legacy platform first (Socket 939 AMD, DDR1 memory, nForce4 based motherboard) and it ran great on that PC.

Recently swapped out my old motherboard, CPU and RAM for something more recent (C2Q Q9550 @3.6GHz, ASUS P5Q Deluxe, 2x2GB G.Skill PC2-8500, Radeon 4870X2) and everything flies. I'm an avid gamer, so I need to be able to swap to recent video cards. A single 512MB Radeon 4870 or 512MB 8800GT won't do me anymore (I've owned both previous to my 4870X2).

Macs are great for what they are, good for your average user. Also can handle light gaming. But PCs are just so much more powerful in the graphics accelerator department, and only because of Apple's draconian lock on their hardware.

Oh, and for all those Apple commercials about their computers being more powerful? That's all bull, Apple computers are based on Intel Core2 processors. There isn't an Intel Core i7 based Mac yet. Even when that happens, it's equal to a PC.

I have no loyalty. I have 2 Macs, 2 Windows machines in the house (1 is a server). I use the tool that fits the job; it was miles easier to setup a mac mini for all of my media serving needs, but building/modding up a Windows PC to run all of the MMORPGs I used to play was a lot of fun too.

I will most likely put an XP-loaded notebook like the Asus Eee in the car. Windows has it all over OSX in the car modding world.

I've had Mac's since 1987 when I bought my first Mac Plus (still have it). In 22 years I've had two quit on me, out of 8, and they were both 6-7 years old and the fix was a power supply for $100. Can't beat 'em for reliability, imo. And their intuitive interface just can't be beat.

I have both also, and mainly use the mac cause it's wireless and a laptop.

My PC sucks, I have to shut it down all the time and restart it. I have too many items trying to open on start up and don't know how to turn them off, windows vista and the fact I'm computer illiterate doesn't help either.

Vista is just unbearable. The fact that my newly built quad core takes 2 minutes to boot up is just ridiculous (with minimal start up programs). The Mac's on the other hand can be quite good (assuming your Intel, my PowerPC 17" Pro Laptop BLOWS).

The price difference/performance is remarkable if you can build your own PC vs a Mac, but Windows 7 needs to be stellar to keep me from going Mac next time for my workstation. Would never buy a PC laptop though, they just don't compare.

MACs have come a long way, Xp is a good solid OS, but now Vista is a slow and bloated POS, and 7 isn't much better. Plus the MAC hardware is better the std pc crap.
You can do anything a PC can do with a MC.
As for performance you aren't wasting cpu cycles, memory and Disk I/O on AV, spyware and firewalls. As of now.

Just my 2cents

Any quad-core machine that takes to boot up Vista isn't configured correctly IMO. My quad machine that I built takes less than a minute to boot up into a usable desktop.

I hate to say it, but all the flack that Vista received is from users that generally don't know assholes from elbows when it comes to computers. I've been using Vista ever since it came out with first, a legacy machine (for Vista at least) that was an AMD Opteron Dual-Core @2.5GHz, 2GB of memory (later 4GB) and an 8800GT (previously 7600GT) video card. The computer ran Vista flawlessly, and any other piece of software I installed on it.

Running an install dating back to December of last year on my new Intel quad-core configuration, and my machine is still going strong. Starts up just as fast and loads programs just as fast.

Apple hardware is the same as PC hardware. Apple is Intel based now-a-days, but for some reason Apple still doesn't pick powerful graphics hardware for their systems. While the new HD4870 512MB card is a good one (I used to own one), 512MB of memory simply isn't enough for video cards these days; you need a 1GB card to realize good performance per dollar at the now common 1920x1200 resolutions.

Vista is a great OS, and 7 is much better. The interface is cleaner, and Microsoft trimmed a lot of the "fat" from Vista. 7 runs quite a bit quicker; bit of evidence to that point, Vista is unable to run on netbooks, while 7 runs flawlessly on them.

I know it's Intel hardware. It's all personal preference.
MAC's Render graphics better in general compare to a pc.

Can't beat a good ole CLI, nice green screens.

Well, see there's a problem with that thinking as well, as any given PC has more options when it comes to graphics hardware. As far as I know, Apple only offers one Quadro with their MacPro, and that isn't even the high end one that is available for PCs.

There is no question that Apple makes a good product, and that they are good at what they do, but a PC can and does have more processing power on both sides (CPU and GPU. CPU not too much longer until Apple decides to release a Core i7 MacPro)

I have a Macbook at home and a PC for work.

Before I started working, I was PC man hands down. But now that I use both on a normal basis, I much prefer the Apple. My work computer crashes all the time, and all I do is normal work stuff (Excel, Outlook, Explorer, Project) which are Microsoft programs that cause Microsoft's own OS to crash. The apple is easy to use, but I do understand the idea behind having ability to run more things. I've run into this a couple times, but I'm still really digging this new Macbook.

I can tell you my system is configured quite fine. I run 8 gigs memory with fairly good components (Tried two different MB's, ASUS & Gigabyte, Intel 2.4GHz Quad, Corsair Memory, Enermax Supply, Nvidia 8800 GT and score 5.9 on everything in the Vista Performance rating. I've rebuilt this sucker a number of times with Vista and even with a fresh install, it can take quite awhile to boot. I haven't timed it, but it definitely takes longer than a minute to boot. No overclocking since it is a workstation and don't need to be burning through possible hardware failure.

When I was running XP on my newly built PC, it booted up between 30-45 seconds from me pushing the power button to completely loading. No way in hell Vista could do that unless you are running some serious power and have nothing installed. I love my PC's no doubt, but Vista sucks as far as performance goes. Sorry. Looks pretty, and has a couple nice features, but it is a pig when it comes to performance. Mac has it's problems too, but they do quite a bit right.

I know how to push operating systems since I design full time for web, broadcast, and 3D manipulation. Also note I am running 64bit Vista. Not sure if you were running 32...but even 32 is a bear on my old PC, which isn't surprisingly since I built it back in 2004. Glad that it works for you though.

Games = no Mac.

I would probably have a Mac if I didn't know much about computers since they are good for people that don't want any hasles.

A PC can be made much better than a Mac if you know how and it is usually cheaper.

Vista sucks though. I have it crashed my computer a little over a month ago and now I have to replay Fallout 3...

Waiting on how Win7 is.

One thing people aren't generally aware of is that Vista is MUCH more anal about the hardware that is in the system. With XP where you wouldn't see the apparent instability of your computer, you WILL with Vista. Could be a bad stick of ram, a failing GPU or CPU, it WILL show it's head much quicker in Vista.

Oh, and recent benchmarks (take all with a grain of salt) have shown that Vista post SP1 and updates has outpaced XP in terms of performance. Windows 7 goes much beyond that; it's cleaner, better looking and faster than Vista was.
