View Full Version : Almost swapped ends, scared myself! Pics of the Santa Fe Soup added!

After I got out of work this morning I ran to the local supermaket for snacks and the ingredients for a Chicken Santa Fe soup.

Leaving the market I was sitting at a red light waiting to turn left out of the market. I was the first in line. When the light turned green I pulled out across a 5 lane road. The shifter was in Sport mode and the TC was off as it usually is. I have a habit now of pushing the button before I take it out of Park.

The car was going to shift into 2nd and I pushed the shifter forward to shift it my self at about 3 quarter throttle at about 5000rpm. Now picture that I'm still turning to the left.

At the shift the tires started to spin and the car started to drift right of center. I corrected. It kept going (of course). At this point I'm well past 45 degrees and still drifting.

lol

I have cars in each direction looking at me and I'm wondering if I'm going to swap ends completely and look like a dolt.

I took a bit, just a tiny bit of pressure off the gas and the car stopped sliding and corrected just as pretty as you please and I drove on down the road as if I meant to do that all along.

I'm now enjoying a screw-driver. I feel I deserve it.

Lets this be a lesson to you. Taking the TC off is like running around with a loaded gun with your finger on the trigger :P But hey all's well that ends well right... :)

What did we do before TC?

;)

I just wasn't thinking "G8". For a few seconds I was thinking "Camry".

I run around with a loaded gun with my finger on the trigger (as long as there are targets to engage) quite often.

That's awesome! I love to do that. It's so much easier in an automatic. Torque converters make driving an automatic car soooo much more fun. I miss my Camaro...:(

Well if it had not stopped at 45deg drift you could of just done a complete donut and kept going, that would have been real impressive. LOL

Plus, I don't want to be the only one, drunk, at 10:23am.

I have thougt the same thing about the TLS/ECS/ABS Had many cars before these added features to include sport cars. Had no problems then. Sometimes I have to think who is really driving the car, me or the computer.

Says who? I have had them to 160 from a roll because I wanted to know how the runners and the ETs would feel. They had 20 in them and it wasnt bad. They are not designed for that, but I just dont like to find things out in the heat of battle. I would rather find out on a 6 lane road with no traffic. lol

don't mean to hijack the thread but, could they be driven an 1 1/2hrs on the highway to the track?

They could, but you better not hit rain! Driving that far I would put them in the trunk and change at the track.

Nice recovery.

I used to turn TC off too. It took a couple of episodes for me, but now I just leave the TC on all the time now during normal driving. It gets away too easy for me.

George, Two questions if I may.
1. That chicken recipe sounds good. What's in it (besides chicken:) )
2. What type of screwdriver? I find phillips to be a little intimidating, so I usually go with regular (although a splash af cranberry goes a long way to puttin a smile on my face) jk.

nice save...the fast and furious crowd will now be looking to take on the 4 door drifter!

Yeah I think anyone who has ever owned a vehicle with more than 300 horsepower and a limited slip rear end have felt that way at one time or another. I did it once down here in Gulfport, MS about 6 year back. Whew did I feel stupid afterwards!

Now that it's spring / summer, I always drive with the TC off and mostly sport mode on. If you leave ESP on and the ESP activates, it pulls timing and stuff on you....

I've driven high hp cars all my life without TC. The first car I ever had with it was my C6 'vette then this G8. I just about always turn my TC off and enjoy what can be done without it.

Slick streets- now when you are facing the wrong way if you can just throw it in reverse and take off-like in the movies-everybody would think you were the best driver in town...lol

1.)Santa Fe Soup.

Ingredients:

One pound ground meat, browned.
3 cans diced tomatoes (or 2 diced, 1 sauce)
1 can pinto beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can whole kernel sweet corn
1 packet taco seasoning
1 packet ranch party dip

Brown ground meat.

Add all ingredients in large soup pot. Do not drain the cans of liquid, but add it all.

Heat thoroughly, and then simmer 20 to 30 minutes.

Garnish with sour cream, cheese and/or tortilla chips

Substitute chicken for ground beef. I cook the skinless breasts, then chop/cut up and return to the pot.

TC sucks. It's like riding an adult bike with training wheels. I'm with George, I get in the car / turn the key / turn off TC then back out of the garage. From reverse to Park to Sport and I am gone.

i did something similar to this when i was 19. bought a 95 cobra mustang with plenty of mods and was learning how to drive a 5speed. though, my story ended up with the mustang on its side after hitting a building. needless to say, i have stuck with automatic transmissions since then.

anyway, glad you made it through that okay. bet it was fun though!

Yeah, this car has crazy power. Has scared me a few times.

I grew up driving RWD cars but have been dong FWD cars for the past 10 years. Even something as powerful as my 465 hp FWD Bonneville SSEi just can't prepare you for losing it RWD style.

I got pretty used to drifting corners from a stop with the ESP on and decided one day to try it with the ESP off. The ESP must pull a lot of power in a slide because the same throttle same take off style with the ESP off ended up in a 180. Luckily noboby was around at the time. I've gone to keeping the ESP on when I get a bit crazy.

The soup:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/GeorgeInNePa/Dinner%20Pics/0518092222.jpg

It is delicious!

I added a can of mushroom pieces(drained) and shredded the chicken after sauteing in a little olive oil. I used white wine to deglaze the pot and used a bit for chef lubrication.

PS
This is a 1 can sauce, 2 cans diced version.
