Alright, pretty much set on my replacement car, which one is faster 0-60, quarter mile, the manual or automatic, my wife can't drive a standard, so I'm leaning auto, can do torque converter or whatever, guess the question is would the auto have more potential than the manual? With mods and all included? Thanks. By the way, my dealer has a few auto gxp's available!

I think an auto with a converter is much more consistent. A M6 requires no trans tuning. Since your wife cant drive a M6, I think your decision is easy. :)

Manual all the way, dude. Having a transmission that does precisely what you tell it, rather than one that tries to think for you, is well worth it. Besides, it's never too late for your wife to learn how to use a stickshift. :)

Well an auto Gxp has already posted 12.8's stock, and I've yet to see a manual post any 12 second times yet. I prefer the auto for the strip and having a wife not know how to drive stick should make it easy for you. I wouldn't want to change clutches on a weekly basis while she learns.

Well it really is all about how you want to drive it and enjoy it.
If the strip is for you then go the Auto, it's faster and more consistent.
If being able to light up the rear wheels at any time without having to lean on the brakes, and really enjoy circuit work is for you then the Manual is a much better choice.
I own an Auto, and love it now that it's been tuned, but the torque converter really isn't up to scratch. I'd really love it if my car actually accelerated when I stomped on the gas, rather than having to wait for the converter to lock up.

I love my M6! I know the auto is much more consistent at the track but my car won't see the track as much as others will. I enjoy rowing gears. Plus I like the challenge of trying to launch good and shift good at the track.

If I wanted a auto I would get the GT. For the money you will save over the GXP and the much better gas milage it is a no brainer for a auto. I want a stick, so have no choice but the GXP. The $$$ you save on the GT spent upgrading the car would make it much faster, and better handling then a stock GXP. Just my $.02 - Good luck with what ever you choose - Lance

Its gonna be hard, my dealer is willing to deal away his auto GXP's at a bargain, I'm going to have to compare the deal of the auto vs manual
And see what I can get! I'll let u all know what I drecide, dr's will clear me to drive in two weeks, so we'll know then.

Hey I'm female and have been driving a manual for over 35 years and love it. My father taught me how to drive his old Ford 1950's pick-up just the basics but Bob fine tuned it and now I can drive just about anything and I prefer a M6. If you are patient she can learn and will enjoy it! By the way hope you are doing OK now! I worked in a neurotrauma unit for a while, so be patient it takes time to get back to normal.

For 1/4 mile auto is faster and more consistent, every time.

If your going to mod a GXP, get the manual so you don't have to replace the DOD lifters and such. It would be a bit cheaper to start modding with.

Both Auto and Manual GXPs get the LS3. Only on the Camaro SS does the Auto have an L99 and the Manual have an LS3.

Now I will be honest and thought "What the hell has he been smoking?" But to be sure I did some research and yes, both are LS3s. What the hell have I been smoking?

It's OK, this one little difference between the two cars has been snagging people left and right!

But the only difference between the GXP auto and GXP stick is the rear gears; 3.27s on the Auto and 3.70s I believe on the stick.

In the long run which one would be fastest: manual or auto? THANKS!

I'm inclined to say manual.

Auto = slightly less RWHP, slightly better 0 to 60 (depending on the tranny, gears) with cars of yesteryear this wasn't the case the manual was quicker.

Manual = higher 1/4 mile trap speed

Please correct me if i'm wrong...:boobs:

Well, going with the manual GXP, silver, no sunroof, onyx interior, picking her up tuesday, 0% APR, can't wait! Putting the flowmaster exhaust on this fall! And switching the tires to ultra high performance all season indstead of summer only performance tires to give me a little more traction since I hydroplaned to cause the accident.

May i suggest Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus as per www.tirerack.com

:theman:

So i think you may be one of the few that has owned more than one G8 GXP.

M6 if you don't plan on racing it much at the track. If you plan on modding it and wanting consistancy, A6 all the way. One of our gxp owners ran 12.80's bone stock, I haven't seen a stick run in the 12's yet.

I had a set of Pilot Sport A/S tires, great tires, superb wet traction, and pretty good dry traction.

In the wet is where these tires come into their own. I had no problem driving confidently at 80MPH in the rain in my 1999 GP with these tires. (245/45/18s)
