How much fuel does the G8 GT consume if you're an "occasional" spirited driver?

I went on a 200+ mile trip today. Mixed driving-Interstate(about 80mph) ,highway, City and waxed a pesky Hyundai Tiburon for good measure.

I got just under 24 mpg.

before my tune on the highway i would get 21-22, and city driving 16, now i average 19 city and have yet to drive for any long distance on the highway

Coming up on 3k miles... I tend to average around 18-19 mpg in mixed driving. I have a heavy foot and like to hunt BMWs for sport so could probably do better.

Stock 2009.5 G8 GT, burning regular 87 octane (Chevron only, please). Started out getting 16.5 mpg but she's breaking in nicely.

I get about 25-26 on the highway.
Don't do much real city driving, but rural around town
will be about 20-21.
Lowest ever was about 18-19 right after I got it
and that was pretty aggressive.

If you want to be technical the tank holds 19.2 gallons. I think.

17.something, about 50% constant 70mph highway, 50% cut-and-thrust city driving. Much better than when new (14.xx).

Ummmm, define "occasional" and "spirited".

I went up to Canada yesterday and burned thru about 10 gallons. A few 60-128 spurts tho'. Stupid Acura, Infinity & Nissan owners. The dealer salesman tells them they are buying a "performance sedan" and they actually beleive that crap. Well, until now.

Sounds like your gas has a case of ethanol poisoning ;)

28 on the highway sometimes if I dont have to buy ethanol. Can you really count city driving as real average? Sitting at a red light gets you 0 mpg.

I get 17-18 average but I'm more than an occasional "spirited" driver. I easily get 23-24 driving around town just putting around. I once drove to Brooklyn NY right at 65 mph (following a truck) and got exactly 26.9 or 27.9 for the 200 mile drive forgot which. These cars are very good on gas especially when tuned. I put 93 octane in it from day one. These figures are mostly with Mobil 93 octane with 10% ethanol, I don't think you can get pure gasoline around here, or if you can I've never seen it.

i get around 26-28 on highway but around town im between 10-13 mpg i average 11.8 since i do mostly city driving

That's pretty bad compared to mine, at 70 mph I get at least 25 mpg. Mine has 10K on it.

So far, the best I have seen in my 09 is 21.5 with 4 people in the car and running an average of 78 MPH on the highway. I see a lot of the 19.5 to 20.5 in mixed driving. I am looking at a VMS tune SOON. The Vararam is sitting on the dining room table.

Funny you say that......I'm selling my ACURA TL ,due to high maintenance cost and as far as fuel consumption goes , they are similar.

I've gotten as high as 30.1 mpg on a tank of gas. Around 25-26 when it was brand new. Once it broke in a little it got better.

In the first 700 miles, babying my G8 on a 12 mile commute with mixed 35-50mph streets and a little bit of 70mph freeway, I'm getting 16 mpg. That's with me being careful about how I drive, both for break-in and to see how much more gas I'll be burning compared to my 1998 trans-am. So far, it looks like the TA gets between 2 and 6 mpg better fuel efficiency when driven the same way (sensibly with only occasional hard acceleration and very very few excursions over 75 mph).

I'm considering a VMS tune (91 octane because I travel some) coupled with a CAI. The roto-fab looks nice but the vararam gives better performance at the expense of having to tip the radiator back a bit. I'm leaning towards roto-fab plus some custom modification to help increase airflow to the roto-fab intake, but for now I'm bone stock. In any case, the tune and CAI is supposed to give better fuel efficiency. We'll see.

I'm glad to hear gas mileage gets a little better with some miles on the motor. I am getting right at 15 around town taking it EASY. I got 24 on a 250-mile interstate trip averaging 73 mph. I have less than 500 total miles on the car.

Mine is about the same according to the DIC. Went on a 230 mile trip and it was getting 24.2 but I was on rural roads and highways driving about 75 with a few kicks. When I got back to and through town it had gone down to 22 showing an average of 53 mph. My wife drives it as her daily driver in rush hour and it has been showing 15 mpg but I didn't check her avg speed, it takes her about 40 minutes to travel 9 miles from home to work and vice versa. It should get a little better after break in.

But we didn't buy this car for it's green status...lol:cool:

I average 19-20 with a 50-50 mix of city highway with not letting anyone beat me off of traffic lights as long as the wife isn't riding with me.

I get 17-18 mix with 50%-50% hw/city. I hop on it every now and then. I have 1700m miles on the car, with a Cortex 91 Tune with AFM disabled.

I have 195 miles on a tank of 93. With an avg of 36.3 mph, I am sitting at 20.1 mpg.
I think thats pretty good considering all I have done to my G8.

I took a 650 mile round trip this weekend. All but about 50 miles of the trip was interstate driving with most of that taking place in the mountains. I averaged 25.0 MPG with the cruise set at 70.

I get right at 20 MPG with a 60/40 highway mix in my daily commute. The car currently has 6000 miles and the mileage and performance have both definitely improved. The only mod to the car is a Cortex tuner with the 93 octane tune.

As an interesting side note: In mountain driving with the cruise set at 70, the transmission never once kicked down to 5th while climbing hills. Gotta love torque!

I spend a lot of time on the Interstate, between 65 & 83 in the AM, Stop-N-Go to 85 in the PM. We also use it when we go to town where there's a handfull of stoplights. My average is almost always 22. The worst has been high 18's and the best on an 1800 mile trip was 24, but that was early on. I have just over 25K miles now.

Just under 10K miles and I drive 70/30 highway/city and I have been averaging 22-23 and that is with the 10% ethanol. I have not gone on a real long highway trip to see what it would get on a whole tank. 40 years ago a car this size with a 6.0L V8 would be lucky to get 8-10 mpg.

I must be doing it wrong, I average around 20.5 to 21.5 on the highways, and 19 with a mixed drive of city and highway. Maybe it is the fact that this thing is so dang responsive to the go pedal.

au conntraire, i must be the only on the board doing it right with my 15 MPG. Pontiac lists 15 as the MPG for city driving. :)

i average about 15ish right now too many tourists and retired people down here that cant drive the speedlimit. or its constantly the yoyo effect speed up slow down so mileage here sucks big time. but i did average 26.5 mpg when i drove from connecticut to florida and that was pre tune.
