View Full Version : A question of tire pressure!

Probably been discussed before but what tire pressure is everyone running. I have Goodyear a/s 18 inch and I run 33 lbs. in all tires with just me in it. I think I read this pressure in the manual but when you look on the driver's side door edge it says 36 & 39 lbs. My tires are wearing dead even at 33 lbs. so I'm inclined to think that this is a good pressure for solo driving. Also a lot smoother at 33. Any comments?

I run 39 cold in my 19's but I need to lower them a bit. They handle well but they are beating the shit out of me... lol

its strange too, the owners manual says to run one PSI and the side of the door in the jam says to run another (on the drivers side) check it out. Well on an 08 at least

on my 20's cold the TPMS says 37/41 but when it heats up
I've seen them as high as 45/48 on a sunny day.. Thinking I should drop it a bit lol...

I can only say that on my 18 inch a/s Goodyears, 33 lbs seems about right, good even wear, smooth but not at all mushy ride, just about right. That's cold pressure as in overnight.

I have mine at 34 lbs cold during the warmer months. Like Steve said, my pressures have been building to 41 when it's set at 36.

How accurate are the TPMS sensors? I have checked tires cold with 2 diffent guages both read same. However the TPMS shows about 2 psi more. Tires are 18" Summer Breidgestone 050As. BTW I noticed too that the manual says one thing and door jam another. Do we add the 2 together and divide by 2 to get an average psi. Realizing that as Sir Winston Churchill said, "A common people seperated by a common language." I do feel that there has been many "translation" flaws in the G8 manual.

I have the summer only 19's. Running 36 up front and 39 in the rear. A little stiff but suits me fine.

I try to keep mine around 39, but during the summer months, it's quite common for them to go to 40+, which makes it feel like a dump truck over pot holes!

How accurate are the TPMS sensors?

Iffy, but mostly close. :p

I just use a good digital gauge and use the TPMS as an low pressure indicator only.

I don't think the manual even mentions "engineering mode", couldn't find any reference to it.

37 for now might drop them to 33-34 ish... The TPMS is pretty close when I've compared it to a gauge

18" Goodyear a/s. 35 front, 37 rear cold. seems about right but I don't pay a tremendous amount of attention to the wear as I plan to get rid of the rubber as quickly as possible.

I always go a few lbs below the tire maker’s side wall max tire pressure recommendation, for longer tire life and fuel mileage, which puts me at 39-40 front, 40-41 rear.

Count on 1-2lbs +- on TPM accuracy.

Cheers!

If it's not broke, don't fix it. ;)

I run 34 in mine.

Wish GM had listened to your admonition, say about 35-40 years ago, more or less, but hey, that's a subject for another thread.

I run mine around 38 front and 36 rear. My TPMS read about 5lbs. more than my 2 tire gauges.
