Apparently reports are coming out that GM is canning all of the SS Trims on all models except Camaro. This includes the cobalt, HHR, and Impala. Also, they are not taking orders for the 2010 CTS-V so that might be gone as well. Good thing GM is making those great 4 bangers that they make no money on!

It's nice to see that when they make one of the nicest performance cars ever made, it's given no respect, all to save a few bucks.

Edit: That last line i'm referring to the CTS-V, not the G8 line, even though i'd like to think that in my own mind :)

Ummm, GM makes less than 1k off our cars. Last time I read up on it the HHR was pulling in 3.8k per car. So, yeah they are making more money on the 4-bangers than anything else.

My thoughts exactly - they actually make a lot more money on those cheap, economy cars (unfortunately).

They make a hell of a lot more then 1k. When its at the factory and done it has a price, then its marked up to dealers, then dealers have invoice(big joke) as I have seen TRUE dealer invoice vs what the dealer says invoice is. Not all dealers do this, but a lot do.

I don't see the Camaro SS lasting very long either.

Most do. All inventory management software allows modification of invoice price.

Well this is why I like our Nissan (2009 Altima 2.5S). I reset the thing right as I got onto the highway. I-85 is pretty level and straight in NC, so not much uphill/downhill error correcting.

As long as I get a sexy car, with a great interior and a shit load of power I dont care.

It can be 4-Cyl or V6 as long as the above standards are met. Now do I prefer V8? Hell yea! But, I'd rather lose that V8 sound than power in general.

I've had mine @ 29+mpg(over32 once) on the highway but average 22-23ish combined. Not so bad considering I live in the sticks w/lots of hilly winding roads.
Dollar for dollar I get better MPG than my wifes RX400h...:nah:

Sad news..I believe we are living in the golden age of performance cars..corvettes making 638hp,caddy's making 550hp. I afraid to see what cars are going be like in 5 years.

I can vouch for that. Used to get Altimas all the time in 2.5 trim as rentals when on travel. I don't know what they run on but it sure as hell isn't the gas in the tank... that needle would hardly ever move.

Agreed, unfortunately most Hondas, Nissans and other Japanese "make" cars are actually built here in the states.

Our G8, of course, was built in Australia by, well, Aussies.

Camaro is built in Oshawa, ON.

My "American" car was made in Australia (by Australians), with parts from America, Mexico, Canada and Australia.

My Toyota was built in Kentucky (by Americans) with parts from Japan, America and I don't know where else.

Which is the American car? Why?

First off any of you that think their is more than $1,100 in mark up in a G8 on the dealer side are flat CRAZY!
Hell I just sold a GXP at sticker today and the mark up was less than $1,200...
The factory makes all the money not the dealers. Hell now GM get 1.5% of the markup back for bail out..
Who is going to bail out the little guy?

My statement was based on the profit made on the vehicle from when it rolls off the production line to it hits the lot. It doesnt help when dealers tried to get 5-10k over sticker on the G8/GXPs when they came out and now its the same on the Camaro. Its a joke anyway you look at it. Pity GM and its dealers.....Wanna buy a SS Camaro for 50k? IDIOTS!

I waited 35 years to get a car like this. At first I wanted a CTS V. 60 Grand and I couldn't wait. Then I was set on a GXP. Three months later and I settled on a GT. I am so happy I did. Now I am going to buy a 2010 G8 GT and park it. Let's see what my kids get at Barrett Jackson in 20 years. A cool Half Million? Who knows? I bet they will be happy Dad had some foresight. Tell me what you think!!!

I wish there would be 2010 G8s but sadly my friend, they are not being made. The G3 and the Vibe will be the last produced vehicles under the Pontiac name. Sad, but true .

If people just boycott dealers with these prices and pay sticker or less it helps all of us. As long as people pay rip-off prices, they will keep doing it. I wouldnt pay that for a loaded SS!

I agree Charlie..Unfortunately theres an idiot born every minute it seems.
I'll just wait a couple years, the Camaro will be better probably and hopefully Chevy will learn where to put reverse lights on the rear of the Camaro, the current spot is just horrible:puke:

Little guys don't make their profits off of new car sales markups. It in parts sales, services, repairs, and used car sales.

I would slap you if I could.. (to wake you up from a dream) there is tooo many G8's for this car to be worth huge money in only 20 years... IMO the G8 will not be a collector car during any of our lifes or even our kids life.

really besides the GNX (and GM only made 547 of them in 87) is ther really any collector cars made in the last 20 years?? (that where not one off cars?)

I think the Mallet Solstice is a prime candiate. A GM "sanctioned" vehicle, even got a 24/24 mile warranty on them. LS2 400 HP engine under the hood without chassis modification, 50/50 weight distribution, 1/4 mile in 12.8, 0 to 60 in 4.4, 1.02g on the skidpad in a package that cost $40K. If you wanted more you could get more (in terms of power and performance). One hundred built. Those numbers roast a C6 Corvette and the G8 GXP at a lower sticker price.

Valley Pontiac where I got my G8 GT has three GXPs, all of them have the ADM stickers and they are marking them up $10K!!!

I got a great deal on my car, so not a slam on Valley Pontiac, but I found it ironic that the temp plate they put on my car after I bought it said, "home of the no second sticker thingy" on it. :ok:

And I'll toss this out too. The Pontiac G8 in any trim has a better chance of being a collector car in 25 to 30 years than anything Toyonda makes. You sure won't be seeing a 2009 Prius at a Barrett Jackson Auction in 2039, you MIGHT see a G8, a Challenger, a CTS-V, a SKY, a Solstice, a Crossfire...
