Greg, do you have the part number for the G8GT rear axle nuts. I don't know if they come with the washers or if that is separate.

I'm going to need two.

Dont get me wrong, they 'could' be reused in a pinch, but GM says no.

No, I had the axles out of the car and while I did reuse them, I need to buy new ones. There is a "collar" on the nut that you crimp into the slot in the axle, locking the nut in place. When you remove the nut, the crimped piece cracks and falls off.

Hence new axle nuts needed.

Washer - 92139022 $10.63 each
Nut - 92138989 $22.45 each

Just looked it up in the service manual.

Remove the wheel drive shaft retaining nut (1).
Discard the nut.

Remove the wheel drive shaft washer (2).
Discard the washer.
Yes you have to replace the washer.

I reckon I've seen those nuts hanging from way too many pickup truck trailer hitches. I feel that anybody stupid enough to have a nutsack on the rear of his vehicle most likely also had a real set of nuts resting on his chin more than once.

But rear axle nuts??? I, I, I just don't know what to say. Ouch maybe? :p
