At last, at last! I have a VIDEO and a DYNO sheet. I am happy with it for now and the tuning will intensify for sure. 12.4 A/F, no KR at all. When you read the dyno sheet feel free to factor in the 3600 stall. Thanks ICON Motorsports!

All that has been tuned partially is the MAF, by me and the base tune Kirk gave me. It has more.....ALOT more.

Making a MAF table and timing table right now. :) I am sure it can get over 460 RWHP. Then factor the converter and thats about 485. Well over 500 at the crank. How do you like how fast that beast revs!

I thought the TQ would be higher as well.

With a 12.4 A/F that is some lost TQ. It needs timing too. I will also raise the limiter to 6900 for the next pull to see what it makes up top.

Its about 455-460 now when you factor the converter. At least another 20+ in the tune. A few dips here and there and 1 big one indicate that there is much more HP lurking. I may go next weekend.

At least you have a general idea of what a solid tune will net, pretty nice numbers, esp w/ 3600 stall! Definitely some left on the table, it's aggrevating knowing there's so much more potential but not enough time, I'm in that boat w/ my TA.

GRRRR8
04-19-2009, 03:55 PM
I really think after reading and studying the tune this afternoon I can get 20 more hp and then go back and get close to that on the dyno. Lots of gaps in areas and the MAF has a ways to go. I guessed over 550 at the crank when I made the call to Kirk and it looks like it will be on target. I just got to get to 465+ and I am in there!

Congrats on getting her close to where you want it (for now).

Don't get caught up in the whole converter robbing HP issue. Kirk tested my setup before and after stall install with the initial tune. My converter only cost 1HP and 3lbs torque. I expected it to cost much more.

I think the track testing is where it's really at. With the stall that high your dyno #s will always be off IMO. I'm not an expert but on the chart it seems to be stalling after the peak torque rpm.

That is a good number for that converter, and honest. Note that I made 400 rwhp with a 3200 and ran 11.9 with a stock weight wheel. Were the pulls done in 3rd or fourth gear? It would have to be tuned pretty bad to pick up 20 rwhp in my opinion, the difference between 12.4 and 12.9 is only a few hp, not 20, just go to the track, NOT A DASHHAWK! Timeslips at the track should net you an 11.5-11.6 with some practice depending D/A, just my opinion anyway. Sounds like a beast, go have some fun with it now!

I agree except for when you drive it. Its a beast, but there are some lazy spots in it and the converter just seems to pull through it. I will be doing some street logging this week as there was not sufficient air for the Vararam to be efficient.

Still doesnt answer the question of why most say there is a loss of 20+ with a stall. As an example: On certain vechiles in the past you had a switch you could install and manually lock the converter and pick up a few tenths. If you are picking up a few tenths locking it then its the same on the dyno.

Did some logs tonight and worked on some launch rpms. The car is a monster, but still have a few areas in the top of 3rd and 4th where it lays down a little. I saw Roy from ICON while I was parked reading a file. I gave an exhibition of acceleration for him so he could see it in action. I hope he saw it lay down as it is pretty obvious. Weird how its 3rd and 4th, but not 1st and 2nd. Just something else to figure out.

Seriously though (and this is a wild guess) but it might have something to do with the torque converter locking up and putting a load on the motor.

my car was on the dyno and it was doing strange things also then my tuner realized it was locking at 98 mph which was making the car do weird things. I dont know if this has any importance i just wanted to throw it out there. 123 gear are set to lock at 318 and 4th was 98. He didnt have time to take it out on the street so he didnt want to change it.

jbradsh1

Charlie, the way your car grabbed the revs on that dyno was something else. I think your car is not only putting out more power than the dyno is showing but more torque as well. I mean that dyno run lasted about 1 sec. from the point it was given full throttle to end. Impressive. I can't wait to see how you get it to run at the track. You may have a very pleasant surprise waiting for you.

I dont know if thats a good thing. If you only make power to 64-6500 it doesnt make sense to push it that high knowing the stock bottom end is only going to take so much. I an guessing I will be shifting around 6800, so if I am no where near the finish line and its past 6800........taller tire and 3.70 gears will be next.
