I built this for a member of the G-8-board without the dashes..

Hope you like

Okay fella's....Starting a new project for a fellow forum member.

I'm Gonna name this one "Beautifully taken apart GT"....Or maybe "no passengers cause the dash is gone"......

HAHAHA!!! Inside joke.

We are doing a spare tire enclosure for dual Jl 12W6v2's...
It will consist of fiberglass/Baltic birch and will be finished in Black Vinyl.

Starting a thread to show progress for that member.

day 1 -08APR09
Picked up the sheet of baltic birch.....Sure is easier to handle by myself than MDF is...I actually man handled it into my van very easily.

And Boy is this stuff pretty... I love working with it...

More updates coming soon...

Day 2 09APR09

Started the measuring and tape process...then foil and pre-positioned fiberglass mat...

DAY 3 10 APR09

resin layup begins....

Figured I would use the OVEN method....

Place a "SAFE" space heater in the trunk and let it heat just the said area....Use one with a timer that way it will shut itself off...and mine will also shut off it it gets too hot...

In the pics you can see that it is only like 58 degrees...But after 20 minutes it is 92 degrees....I am gonna open the trunk slightly to reduce the temp so the heater does not shut off due to over-temps...

This is just the first few layers...there will be one or two more applications before it is taken out....so grab the popcorn and stay tuned...

Also Notice----see the line drawn in sharpie...that is where 2.68ft3 is..more than enough for 2-12's...JL recommends 1.25 sealed and each sub has a displacement of .09 so this is exactly what they recommend.

(Note to self?????DID I SPELL "REcommend) correctly?

AND HERE SHE IS!!!!!

DAY 8 15APR09

She is pretty much done!!!!

just got some cleaning up to do tomorrow and her owner can come pick her up!!!!

I threw some test LED's in there to show what it would look like all lit up...Sorry about the pic quality in the LED pics...It is night and the only way to get the light to show is with no flash...

How you like that stealth grill? It is non backed carpet...so it will pass the bass/Air...

the complete set of pictures can be seen here .... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3314723

I had a setup like this in my 97 GTP with 3 JL 12 W7's and man I loved it! Very clean install you have done!

Thats great work. I was always into car audio basically my whole life, but I have never worked with fiberglass. Always something I wanted to do but never did.

You should have made a master mold and then pop a few of these out for profit. Good job.

I agree with the mold to speed up the process, but I think he would still have to customize each one for internal air space based on the specs of the subwoofer. I bet you will have more than a few people interested in these though.

Bet that was loud!!!I used to run 2-13w7's and I had a ported and a sealed enclosure ....WAYYYYY LOUD!

Fiberglass is not hard, just messy and tedious....Oh and most of all stinky!!

I will do a mold next time...This one was the first...
I could have gone faster but I was doing the planning as I go. Also the easter weekend was a time killer too.

as far as the internal airspace, Its simple to calculate and adjust for..I can use the same mold for each enclosure. The baffle is what changes...

And I do have lots of interest in these...

The mold is actually not as hard as you may think to do...:)

I am very interested as my subs take optimum 1.25cu.ft sealed per sub. Displacement is only .094, cutout diameter is 11.25". 2-12's. Let me know when you get ready to produce these. PM me a price with shipping to 58703. This enclosure will get alot of views as the 8 will see a couple shows this year.

I just PM'd you

But for everyone else...here is the info minus pricing..since that is illegal here (I think)

I will be building a mold to allow me to make them easier but not for mass production...I just do not have the funds to do that. I just do this for a little extra cash since I am a Laid off AT&T guy....

IDK...maybe I should start a pre-manufacturing biz

I do this for every car I own...

Let me know if you are still interested..

The way I do it is, I require half up front for materials...then I make the enclosure and post progress in your choice of forum as I go....

Then when its done I weigh it and get the exact cost to ship. Then I let you know and when I recieve the other half plus the shipping, I ship it to you....

FYI...that last one is about 16lb, which is very good for a 2.68ft3 enclosure...

I can make the baffle out of MDF(heavy) or Baltic birch(half the weight).
