Nice choice of wheels.
I wouldn't use bias ply drag tires with radials on the front. But, that's just me.

My experience with drag racing is minimal. I don't want to get into a situation I can't get out of.
Those are the exact wheels I'm going to buy. I'll be using drag radials instead.

Yeah, I like those wheels. Ray - So does that mean you will be going with these Mickey Thompsons?

They can't be that much worse than an ET Street. Right?
Also, could you use the ET Street Radials on the road (during the summer) too?

You can use the ET Riadials to drive to the track. They are DOT approved. I wouldn't want to though. If I can't get a trailer for my car, I'll be swapping them when I get there. Don't want to waste the rubber on the street getting there.
Some people may be fine swapping bias ply and radials. I just won't be doing it.

It all depends on your hp level and suspension set-up. The ET streets are more "forgiving" on cars whose suspensions are not adjusted effectively, but they cost you mph on top end due to sidewall deflection and distortion. The ET Street Radial is way more stable on top end but not as forgiving in the 60'. That is where hp also comes in, if you aren't , excuse the phrase, "one of the heavy hitters" you shouldn't have to worry about the slight difference in initial traction. As one of the others said, you can drive it to the track but neither of them have much tread life and every mile you put on them on the highway decreases the life expectancy and effectiveness at the track. One last little tidbit though, the ET Street Radial will last longer at the track compared to the ET Street. What wears out on slicks (of any type) is the sidewall, not the footprint, and since the sidewall does all of the work in an ET Street, it is the first to die

Ktlplxm:

Thanks for the reply, that was a lot of good information. I'm thinking I should probably go with the MT ET Streets bias ply vs. the MT ET Street Radials, becuase I am spinning like crazy for the 1st 90'

1st gear is pretty much useless with the stock tires at the drag strip.

I may not be one of the "Heavy Hitters" or Neo the chosen one, but I do make a good amount of HP & TQ at the wheels....... :)

The offset on the 17x9.5s might be too high.

I KNOW that an F-Body 17x9 with an offset of 50 will fit on a G8.

I KNOW that the Vette 18x9.5 from the 97-98-99 Vettes will fit (I think the offset is 54).

Just as heads up, check the tireless balance on those wheels before mounting a tire. Also check the roundness and run out of the wheel. We stopped selling Replica Alloys due to A LOT of balance problems (and I do mean alot). We would chase vibrations, re-balance, only to find the wheel itself was out of round, then because a tire had been mounted they wouldn't do anything about it. Just a warning. Best of luck

My specs are 17X9.5 5-120.65 56S....those rims aren't on the site anymore.

Your rims are 17X9.5 5-120.65 54BM....BTW they look nice. Are you using a hub ring ??

So your offset is +2 higher then mine. No hub ring.... is that needed?

Edit: What should i torque these too? 90 correct?

I believe its needed to center the wheel on the hub. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But I also believe if you don't have a vibration at speed you don't need one.

Yeah that +2 might be a killer.

Guess we will find out whats the worse that could happen right? Let me know how it works out for you when you get your tires on.

I'm liking how the black looks with a the "chrome" lip... not half bad.

As long as there's no rub...the worse that could happen is a vibration at high speed.

You should test those before you go to the track. I would drive to the nearest highway and drive for a few miles at 70-80 mph to see if you have a vibration. Better to know before you go to the track.

FWIW, I used a borrowed set of 18" Vette wheels at the track and had no vibration problems.

Damn man that sucks. Get the same pair as me. They come in silver and chrome as well. I'm assuming that +2 offset was the problem.

The rim itself doesn't rub. It just misses the bolt at the bottom inside fender well and the front inner fender well. But with the 275/40/17 DRs mounted the tires rub in a bunch of places. I was told I needed a 1/4 to 1/2 inch spacer to make the rims work and he doesn't believe in spacers.

If the rim was 17x9 it would work or if the backspacing was was less than 56.
So yeah that +2 screwed me.

The 17x9 was the rim I was going to buy. It's a plus 54 if I remember correctly.

The size is 17x9 with a 50 offset. The 9.5s rub and the 56 is way too much. I have 9.5s, but they are not that type of wheel.

Damn that sucks man :(

I got back from look again to make sure if there is any rubbing and there is nothing. Took it on the freeway and no vibration or anything. You can feel a difference for sure. I would not street drive these tires at all.

are you running a drag radial or et street? The Drag Radial shouldn't drive any worse, unless of course the wheel isnt centered on the hub

How much air? Try 18-20 on the street and 18 1st pass at the track. They are meant to go straight only. If you havent had them it is an experience for sure!

ET Street, i upped the pressure to 28, drives better now. I was just trying to get a feel for the tire before the track.

So Charlie, 18psi on the first pass? What would you run the fronts at? Stock tire on the front.

28 psi is way too high for that tire. Its not a radial. They are so soft you will wear the centers out fast. Try 22. I run 16-18, but I am use to the U-boat sensation. The fronts on the street for your factory 19s 37-38 and at the track 48-50.

Yes i am slowly getting used to the u-boat sensation LOL. Alright i'll lower them to 22.

So if i head to milan 2marrow and just to put myself at ease...

18 psi for the rears
48 for the fronts,

Correct?

From the wheel replica email.
Sorry we no longer do SS style wheels.

I just bought a set of used 17x8 GTO rims. I pick them up
SAT morning. They'll just have to do until I find something better.

Are you driving on the ETs? Only put 37-38 in the fronts for the drive there. Once you get there 18 and 48 is correct.

Can someone help clarify this thread.

Will a 17 x 9 ZR-1 style wheel with a 50mm offset work?
Do I need different lugs for the wheel to fit?
