How do I paint an emblem?

Just curious what the best way would be to go about this. I want to do it myself, but I don't want it to look like crap. Basically, I want to take the hood emblem and paint it a matte black and then I have an Ignition Orange Metallic overlay to put in the center after it is painted. Is there a certain paint I should use? I appreciate any info.

I'd do a light sand, use Adhesion Promoter then your paint of choice. Actually, barbecue paint is pretty durable....
