Anybody here know of a good place on Long Island to Beef up (strengthen) our tranny? How much does this typically cost?

Hasnt been needed yet. I heard Rosslier(sp?) has a kit and I found another place that sells a upgraded trans, but it was 4k + shipping.

yeesh that's a lot. Gotta do some searching. I hear people changing up the tunes and the T/M with a lot of power (around 450ish rwhp). I like my tune the way it is and want the tranny to hold up easily.

Charlie I think you are looking at Rossler (http://www.rosslertrans.com/). I did not see anything on their website about the 6l trannies, but I do recall hearing that they were doing a setup where they installed an additional 2 gears in a 4l... is that the setup that you are talking about for 4k?

Rossler did the 6l80e trans for us on this car: http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/tab.phtml?gk=455&t=HotRides

and it has held up quite well to over 800hp, it's not cheap, but they are the only ones I know that have built one this far...

I would contact RPM in Indiana, I'd be surprised if Rodney didn't have anything for it. I hoping this won't be necessary for our cars.

I remember the number 4, possibly followed by the number 5 and a few zeros.

You get the picture.

Its the same thing we've seen with all other parts and services for our cars. New cars, new parts, only game in town= charge a lot.

Hey, I don't know for sure.

You could give them a call tomorrow, if you're interested.

the main reason for this has somewhat been covered. There are only upgraded clutches commercially available for the 6L80e transmission, so all other parts are hand made, and very costly. Also, rossler is big money even on 4l60e's they charge about 3k+ for those transmissions... I think RPM has done some work with them as well, but i don't think they are being pushed nearly as hard as our's...

That sucks in a way. I don't wanna go over 450RWHP with this tranny then. Paul said his is holding up well with no T/M.

I think you could do closer to 500rwhp with no issues with the right tune. Paul literally beats on his car non stop, so his would fail before most people's ;)

Does anybody make a canned tune for the trannies which emphasizes reliability for forced induction setups?

Thats comforting lol. I basically want an identical set-up to pauls car, with the addition to the 327 rear gears. Paul wants to do the gears to eventually. I can't wait to see the results for the head porting.

From what I have read, the 6L80E in our cars has been built to handle a lot more weight & power than any of us are likely to generate. I think it is used in HD trucks that are rated to tow rather heavy loads. ex: 5000lbs.

So, 5000lb truck, + 5000lb load + massive torque from FI deisel engines. Then again, as I remember, you have had all the luck with your G8 so far, eh? :hang:

F*ck! I dunno!

More so shitty service than the G8 itself.

Speed, dependability and durabilty costs. How much of each do you want?

Blackdevil77
04-12-2009, 06:20 PM
whats the difference between dependability and durability? wouldn't those go hand in hand? Just want it just about as reliable as it came from the factory.

GRRRR8
04-12-2009, 06:28 PM
2 different things. Dependability is effected when you turn a DD into a racecar. Now you cant do a 2000 mile trip without potential issues. Durability is when you exceed the capabilities of internal engine/trans/diff components. Thats why a well thought out combo ALWAYS produces the best results when it is tuned properly.

while not having a "canned" tune for the various combos out there, we do offer remote tuning that can definitely accomodate your needs for the TCM calibration.

Then I want both. The "goal" is to make this a dependable, durable, 11 second daily driver.
