I was coming home today and a Mini Cooper S got behind me. He was game so I got on it. 2 things happened that got my attention. First was that I wasn't pulling away as fast as I thought I should be. That is a low 15 second car!!!! Second thing is that the whole time I was floored I could see black smoke coming out of the exhaust. It wasn't like I was throwing up a smoke screen or anything like that but it was enough to see in my rear view mirror.

Did you downshift to third or forth? There are some modded minis that are pretty quick.

I think adding headers makes it run rich.

black smoke does not sound normal... you would have to be really rich to have enough smoke to be seen by the driver

You really need a tune. and maybe a catch can. Are you sure it wasnt being blown up from the road? I'm sure Charlie will chime in, although he does seem a bit AWOL lately.
