Took my car back to the dealer to have a new rear spoiler put on,and today the sun is out so going over the car I notice at least 15 fine to very fine scratches on the front hood and other places. What to use? I was thinking about that colored paint wax stuff.

It's obvious this dealer's body shop don't care about paint care while working on the cars,I will send an E-mail though. My first new car in 20 years,I forgot about all the headaches.:(

With the car being black only makes things more noticeable.

Best way is to polish them out. Of course if you can catch a fingernail in them they are too deep. Maybe dealer should fix them.

Nice job! Some fine polish and sealer would make it perfect.

The dealership did that? I never would of taken back that way. Heads would of rolled. Least they could do would of been polish it for you. You have to catch it there though.
Nice job on polishing it out. Just remember the more you polish it the better it looks.

Yes I know,It has been so cloudy and cold around here I have been driving my Jeep around, today was the first sunny day so I noticed it,I was surprised it worked so well with just a few minutes of effort.

I'm going to have to try some of this out.

Scratch X and SX2.0 is nothing more than a filler. If you want to get rid of them some light wet sanding with 3000 grit and then stepping down from medium to light polishing compound to lighter and lighter compounds will get rid of them for good.

Adam's has everything you need to make your black car look new again and unlike the SX it won't wear off after you wash it.

If my car would have come back from the dealer like that I would have gone the fuck off on them. THAT is B.S!

Scratch X is not a filler. If the scratches came back after you used it, then you didn't use it properly or there were new scratches you were seeing.

It seems to be a hotly debated subject. Does it or doesn't it... I found it to work ONLY for a short time and then after a while the same scratch would reappear. Maybe it's the oils in the product that make you believe the scratch is gone but after it wears off the scratch reappears.

I have gone through one bottle of it and have another bottle of the 2.0 on my shelf.

I'm just speaking from experience of my past use of it.

This is all IMO... Of course.

I always heard it was a car show day product, to conceal any unsightly scratches, but wears off over time.

Scratch-X works great, you just have to rub the piss out of it, and usually make 3-5 passes.

Here is an example. I had an "incident" with the garage door and my G6 (didn't have the car in the garage enough before closing the door).

Before:

After:

Unfortunately I don't have any up close pictures of more than a few minutes after, but the scratches definitely did not come back.

Like I said that's just what I heard, I still plan on trying some out though, regardless.

Maybe I can try some on my DA Porter cable. That may help. I bet it's a lot like Adam's Machine polish but even less abrasive.

You need Scratch-X 2.0 for PC. The old ScratchX doesn't work well with a machine.

Yeah I bought that last year. Most everything has been binned to make room for the Adams stuff.

I used to use TechWax and then bought 2.0. I liked the original better for applying by hand.

I use Adams exclusively now. At first I thought it was all hype but I tried one thing that led to another and another and so on.

I've used Scatch X and have never had any scratches on any car come back. I've had some that it wouldn't take out, but that' another subject.

What about those fine "spider lines" that can show up on a car? What's the best things to get those out or make them less noticeable?

I like the new Swirl-X that Meguiars makes, it worked pretty well on my truck to get rid of the swirls from not always using the best technique when washing and waxing.

Be very careful with sanding. Too much and you'll take the clearcoat off. I've had a lot of success with 3M's Finesse-It products followed up with Zaino.

Another option:

Good video series that will show you what the product can do. Note that some good information is near the end of the video:

I have used Scratch X which is a diminishing abrasive to remove some paint defects with good results as well.

Tried that Meguiars Scratch X 2.0. I didnt do a damn thing for me.

That means one of two things:

1. The scratch is too deep to be removed by a scratch remover, and you will need to have it touched up

2. You used it wrong. You need to rub the shit out of Scratch-X, it's not a wipe on, wipe off product. With any scratch remover, you are actually removing a small amount of the clearcoat so you really need to work it in. Put some product on your towel and work it until the product is pretty much all gone. You also need to make more than 1 pass, usually more like 3-5 (sometimes more). What kind of towel or applicator did you use? I find a good quality terrycloth works better than microfibre (it has more bite).

I actually used a foam pad to rub it in. I thought I rubbed it in pretty good. My arm hurt after. I guess the scratheS are too deep.

A quick check is to lightly rub your fingernail over the scratch. If your nail catches on the scratch, it's too deep. A scratch remover can improve it, but will not remove it completely.
