With the tracks opening up, its only a matter of time before I get pissed with my times at the track. My new 20's certainly aren't going to help the cause. So I want to start looking for any deals out there on drag wheels and radials.

Any suggestions?

Alot of guys have had good luck with using F-body 17in wheels and getting a DR combo that gets as close to the stock tire/wheel diameter as possible. I'm going to look into this as well as the 18in DR's I'm running don't seem to be helping at all. Lol!

I think the F-Body combo like Jay said is about the best/cheapest route. I went a different route and may still go bigger on tire. Saturday street racing after a wedding I went to last night proved the car is an animal, but it was come from behind everytime due to massive wheel spin though 2nd and a little when it hit 3rd on the 19s. The guys that wanted the 50mph roll realized that wasnt what they really wanted after all!

17's are sounding good, probably cheaper as well. What size on the 17's will be close to stock?

All the posts from racing this weekend and the 60' times have me worried.

Maybe shoot Mike at New Era a PM on this and see what combo he's running on his. He has gotten a 12.10 on his set up. Don't remember his 60' time but I think it was like a 1.6 or 1.8.
I seriously believe alot of our 60' issues was the track prep. Alot of cars were having issues hooking up.
as for over all times I'm sure the 15-25MPH head winds weren't helping at all. :(

Many of us have 94-02 stock F-Body 17x9, 50mm offset rims (WS6 Trans Am and Camaro SS). These are 5x120.65mm (5x4.75") bolt circle. Our cars are 5x120mm (5x4.72"). These aren't recommended for street use, just track use. They will be lug centric not hub centric like you should be using.

You could buy aftermarket 5x120mm 17x9 or 9.5" rims. There are hard to find, but they are out there.

The most common tire is the Mickey Thompson ET Street 26/11.5/17 (not ET Street Radial, these are bias ply).

Some are using the 28" tall M&H, this is what I think Mike at NEP is using now.

Sounds like a plan. A friend actually offered me his spare set of F-body wheels.

George:

Thank you very much for this post. There is a ton of good information here. I'm so done with the stock street tires at the track. :)

I can't wait to get some MT ET Streets, again thanks for the specs on the wheels that our cars need.

Are the MT ET Street's tubeless or tube type and does that affect the type of aftermarket wheel we should get?

Tubeless.
