I plan to put some more meat on the rear wheels. I know the stock GXP wheels are 19"x8". I currenlty have the stock 245/40/19. I'm wondering how wide I can go on the rear stock rims. Thanks. I welcome all smart ass comments in response to my lack of using the search feature...

I believe a 295 tire is the widest you can go on the stock rim.

Stock 8" rim will handle a 255 tire.

would 255/45 be alright or would I have to stay 255/40. I'm thinking the difference in the 255 vs 245 with respect to peformance and grip would be negligible at best.

I would have to agree with you on both points.

Depends on the style:p
Still 295 won't be max for either style though, but that's off topic:)
I guess I stand corrected on the width, my bad:(

this link is excellent for comparative tire/wheel considerations:
http://www.1000rims.com/rt_specs.jsp
295/35/19 could work, it's just a negligible .4" taller than stock
When speedometer reads 60mph actual speed will be 60.9mph: 1.5% faster.

I have 255's on my 18' I run in the winter. Perfect fit for an 8" wheel.

it is not a speedo problem it is a tire popping off the rim problem.

You can always send the rear wheels off to a company that can custom widen them. They will cut off the back lip, weld in another inch or more, then weld the lip back on. Might have to run a spacer to get the proper offset afterwards. But, you end up with factory looking wheel that is 9-10" wide.
