View Full Version : Painted my Engine Cover

I think it turned out pretty well. I scuffed it with a scotch-brite pad and painted it with Dupli-color metallicast blue paint. I knew it would be close in color but Im surprised at how well it matches. I got a slight run on the front right side that I will sand out and touch up later. Let me know what you think of it. Im considering painting my CAI also.

Thanks. Im happy with how it turned out. Ive only had the car for a week and I couldnt take the silver any more.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Any input on whether or not I should paint the CAI to match?

That would look good. Then just do the V8 in silver or red.

Nice! I'm in the process of prepping mine for paint now, but havent decided on a solid combo. May go all black with the V8 in red, or cut it in half and just have separate covers and go from there.

I have a question for you, or anyone else who has painted their cover.

Did you use an adhesion promoter, or just primer and paint, or just mask off and paint? Dealing with plastics I've always used an adhesion promoter(2x), primer(2x), color(3x), then clear (2-3x), with wet sanding 1500g in between color and clear coats. Just wondering which processes you guys are using.

I considered using an adhesion promoter but I did not I just sprayed it. It hasn't had any issues yet. If it peels of in the future I will sand it down use an adhesion promoter and primer and then do it again.
