When I went to the store the other day to get oil for my first oil change the Mobil 1 Extended Performance was $8.79 and the Royal Purple was also $8.79. But they had a special on the Mobil 1 any 5 quarts and a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99 so I bought 2 of the specials and I have an extra filter and extra quart left.

We sell Royal Purple and Eneos.

The pace deal is tough to beat. I think they fill the cans with dino oil (totally kidding!)

Eneos is Japan's full synthetic oil now marketing here in the States.

It's not cheap!

+1 for Pace. Bought my kit from them a couple thousand miles ago. A couple bottles of a different grade of RP snuck in, called em up, and I had 2 quarts of replacement within a couple days. Very good customer service.

I just bought in on the RP deal from Pace. Should have it here in a bit. They are sending it with another item I ordered.

I am getting my oil at Costco... "Kirkland Extra Virgin Olive Oil" The kind all Ferrari owners use!

Does it make sense to stock up with some of these deals?... or does oil "go bad" if it sits around too long?

Also,is it bad to switch from Mobile 1 to RP and vice-versa depending on who has the better deal?

Good to know! I just ordered it from Greg... Wonder if it's to late to say forget it... It's not like he had to order it for me. Maybe Mobil 1 will be fine...

Yeah, I was about to pull the trigger on the RP stuff. I then ran across this thread and it changed my mind. Just figured I would post a "heads up" to this thread. :)

Wow that surprises me to read that post about Royal Purple. I have always heard it's one of the best synthetics available.

I've been using Valvoline full synthetic, it's $22 for 5 quarts at Walmart last time I was there. Everyone says it's better than Mobil 1 and I seem to agree, plus the price is a little lower.

Oil won't go bad sitting on the shelf, that's the reason there's no expiration date on it.

This is a shock. Have used RP for years with no problem. Used the engine, auto trans and rear diff in my J30t. No problem, used it in all my Honas no problems. But I am open to this report. So I guess its either, Mobil One, Vavoline Synthetic, Castrol Synthetic .

BTW The Japanese Synthetic is actually whale oil and Saki combined.

OH, You mean the COMPETITOR BP sponsored tests and a little confusion over the definition of the word "better".

Bogus, biased, word-parsing.

So what's real scoop? Is everyone buying into the theory that RP is no good? I've still got it in my car....

I never used it and I probably never will. There's a lot of lower priced synthetic oils out there that do a good job lubricating the motor. I have been using Valvoline full synthetic for a quite a while now and I'm very happy with it.

I am probably like most people that assume if my engine doesn't explode between oil changes of any decent interval (3k - 6k), then the oil I am using is fine. I'm using M1 as of last week. I'm very happy with it based on the fact that my car still works. I'm guessing that the best rule is to get a good quality oil of correct weight, stick with it, and change it regularly.

It's all good.
Two weeks ago I changed the oil in my van. It takes 4.5 qts. I only bought a filter because I *knew* I had a 5 qt. jug of M-1 in my shed. Turns out after I drained the pan, the jug only had 3 qts. left in it. Kid says he added two qts. to his Dakota, dang.

I dumped what I had left; 3 qts. Needed more, so I found a 10-yr. old quart of Castrol Syntec 5W 50, in a buried case I found in the garage, so I added that. Dug around in my cabinets and found a half-qt. of M-1 10W 30 probably from about 7 or 8 years ago. (based on the old-style bottle). Dumped that in too.

My father-in-law, who watched the whole ordeal, seems to think my van's engine will seize up....

It's a 4.3 liter Chevy.. I'm not worried.

It will be ok, oil doesn't have a shelf life and mixing oils won't affect it.

I love it. That motor could run on piss for oil in my experience.
