GXP Rear Diffuser Install

I just installed and will post pics tonite. This is NOT a true bolt-on, but easy enough just the same. Since the center is narrower then the G8 diffuser, you MUST cut 3/4 of an inch from each inner edge up to the tailpipe opening. I have a feeling this will not be an issue on 09s as they probably make 1 bumper that does both, but if it doesnt just slide right in, that is the issue. Nonetheless it still only took 20 minutes and looks killer! On a side note, since the GXP has 2 real tailpipes on the muffler, the opening is slightly larger, so a tip change may be in order for a perfect look. I will be experimenting once I change the mufflers. I think a oval tip will look very good with this diffuser.

Thanks for the info. That is weird though. GM calls for the same fascia part number for 08,09 G8 and 09 GXP.
I wonder if they changed the design on the 09 some and replaced the 08 part number with the redsigned part number.

Hey Charlie, did your GT diffuser come off unharmed? I managed to rip off the 4 center retaining clips when taking mine out...not that I planned on reusing it but just curious.

LOL! I should have thought of that! No just a small air saw. I hacksaw blade with a handle would work fine and I do believe George could cut it with a plastic knife!

If its a early G8 you will, but like I said it will only take you less then 30 minutes for the whole install.

I placed my order on Wensday and it came in on Friday... I work for a GM store and we had just got our first GXP so I used the vin and placed a Spat case to get it luckly their was one at a dealer in Indy and poof I got it quick..

I do have a strange question though???
One of the guys in the shop saw me pulling the tabs on the lift so he decided to just pull my entore rear bumper and do it the easy way.. We didn't cut anything and it looks great. Why did you have to cut the bumper just to line it up?
I have a 2009 G8 GT produced in late Jan 2009.
I will post pictures later the wife has it at work.
Hell I would rather her not drive my Trailblazer SS keep her in the sloooo car:nah:

I think Charlie mentioned that you would have to cut on the 2008 GT, since GXP wasn't made in 2008 I guess the rear bumber a little different compared to 09's. Glad to hear fit was good on 09. Cant wait to get mine..

Anyone thinking about painting it to match the car color before putting it on, but popping out the red reflectors and put some filler in to remove the reflectors and the void of no reflector?? Or leave the reflectors in and just bond-o over them, sand smooth??

When I get mine I'll have it painted to match the car. I'm leaving the reflectors since I have a red anyways, otherwise I would try to do something with them.

I called and GM still says they have no ETA on them and the shipment is past due. If you ordered one before without a VIN then you will still be waiting. We are only getting in orders because we opened SPAC cases on them all.

No. I should re-word what I said. GM filled the orders as they wanted to, and because each had a different VIN attached to it we could not fill the orders on our end by first in first out with out mixing up orders later down the road.
The rest of the diffusers should be here very soon. I hope that describes the situation a little better.

Well it looks like Charlie is not the only one who has had to cut the rear bumper to get the GXP diffuser to fit. I've got an early 09 and the bumper cut outs for the exhaust were smaller.

But it does look damn nice over the stock honey comb crap.

I know that I got the last available batch (at least until June or July 2009) of the Holden engine covers from AUS, but that was delayed because the giant plastics manufacturer went out of business over there.

Not that it matters, but no matter where you order from, you're in for a LONG wait. I checked with a buddy of mine who runs the B/S for a large Dallas dealership group and his system shows it on "back order" and that there are ZERO units available anywhere in the States.

My problem with the price is that I can get it for 65 plus shipping. They are on a delay and won't ship out until June, but how soon I get it does not matter to me, I can wait. With that in mind my offer would be 65, but I can assume that you will not accept that based on your 125 price. Also I know that is not the actual picture of the diffuser, you either got it from Pace Performance or a car forum, and would rather see the actual picture. My car has a build date of 11/07 and the GXP diffuser wouldn't fit the bumper cover with-out trimming the opening.


Remove GT Diffuser. Remove plugs underneath. Then pop upper locks out of bumper cover. You should be able to start at one end and pop the locks, one by one.

Remove reflectors from GT diffuser and install in GXP diffuser.

Then mark a straight line across the top of the opening and straight down the bumper cover to the bottom edge. At the bottom, underneath the car, you will be removing approx 3/4".

Here's what it looks like. I used a cut-off wheel because that's what was handy. (I needed to get a new Inspection Sticker, so I went to the garage I used to work at. They let me do this little quicky job while the car was on the lift)

It's very soft plastic. I just did mine this weekend and mine is an '08 as well. The pics George has up is very accurate and I followed the same procedure. Love the GXP diffuser much better than the GT. Now I want the GXP front.

The diffuser comes with no reflectors. You reuse your reflectors.

Took me about an hour in my driveway. I had to figure out how it came off.
Plus I have an 09 with a build date of MAR 08. So guess what ?? I had to
cut. The tips need to be adjusted.

do it during the day so you can see what your doing, keep the GXP diffuser handy so you can see about where the tabs should be. start on the passenger side and feel your way around keeing your fingers btw the bumper and diffuser. use a small screw driver if needed to pry the tabs down.

Has anyone had fitment issues. Drill one small hole in the bottom on each side and get a plastic GM pust retainer to hold it in place. I did this and it is 100% perfect, from the bottom you only se a factory retainer.. A++ to an easy fix..

I ordered GXP diffuser a couple of days ago from Pace. Does anyone know if it includes the retainer clips that hold it to the rear bumper cover or do we reuse the ones from stock diffuser? How many clips hold the diffuser in place?
