Ok, I know that there are lots of opinions about break in period. How long did you wait until you felt comfortable really opening your G8 up?

First line lock smokey 30' long burn out was before 200 miles and 120mph shortly after that.

If you dont plan on modifying it, feel free to drive it hard, the guys at the dealership probably already have. If you plan on modding it, be easy since they will find any excuse to void it later

Drive it like you stole it as soon as you get the break in oil out. If you're doing any serious modding you're not worried about the warranty. :)

Yes exactly what I was gonna say. First 500 miles or so, go easy on it, change the oil to fully synthetic stuff, then drive maybe 50 miles more, then HAVE FUN!!

At 3 miles I was flying down the highway, sunroof open, music blasting, running around 2500 rpm's in 6th :)

Thanks for the responses. I am broke at the moment, so mods will wait for a year or two. I am at 800 miles, and will change the oil soon. I am so excited to have a car like this, it isn't even funny. I had a Saturn Astra, and when the dealer told me the price of the G8 with rebates, $2000 in neg equity just disappeared in my mind :)

From what I read, some quick strong pulls then cool downs help rings set and help oiling the pistons at tdc. This is the way I plan on breaking her in. Bought at 18 miles, at 55 miles now.

Our cars do not come with break in oil. The rings are already seated by the time you turn the key. I dont recommend using a synthetic oil until it has 3-4k as a precautionary measure. After 500 miles, let it rip!

your cool downs are not shutting off the engine?? you are running it up to say 70-90 mph for just a second or so than slow to the speed limit say 45 or so mph correct, if so I believe that is a good way to do it.

Engine no. But they made a huge deal out of the trans shifting being fixed my way vs letting them continue to load the same BS reflash in it over and over

Not a big deal. If you notice a consumption issue, switch back to conventional oil for an oil change. Highly unlikely you will have an issue as I did the same thing and I have uh....have driven my car a "little" aggressive.

These cars make that easy...and it has four doors and the latch system(please note aggressive is only without children even if the 5yr old yells "Faster daddy pass them)

With the LS3 in the GXP, having 250 on the clock,

should I swap out the Mobil 1 and run some dino for the next 1000+ miles?

Late to post lol...

As soon as we drove it off the lot...with a whole 17 miles, we were messing around w/ my buddy Matt in his Z28. Finally getting onto the highway home, about 55 miles then, opened it up all the way. That was our "break in"...I did change the oil @ 1k miles though.

I think the break in times have more to do with the transmission wearing in and the rear diff than anything to do with the engine.

I punched ours a couple of times down the interstate on the way home but no full throttle starts until it edged past 670 miles and am still a little easy on it.

I am totally interested in this answer. I thought that if the engine requires Synth oil and you run dino that you could hurt engine seals. Engine seals, not baby seals...
