Mobil1 was on sale, so I bought enough for all of 2 oil changes:

I did have the bottles in the cart nicely lined up, but the cashier had to look at each bottle to make sure I wasn't trying to slip a bottle of 15W40 in there or something.

I'm not sure what I plan to do for oil. I do know I will wait till about 6000 before adding synthetic. Just not sure whether to use TRUE synthetic or non synthetic synthetic...:hmm:

Here's a great link to a page to learn about oils and what's synthetic and what's not. Good read!

Just changed my oil for the first time yesterday, at just over 1,000 km.

I discovered that my oil pan isn't big enough to catch all the oil, without moving it halfway through the drain process.

Here's a great site to learn about breaking in a motor for power.

www.mototuneusa.com

IT WORKS! You HAVE to seal those rings in both ways right away.

FYI - I use Royal Purple in my race car (stock LS1 engine) and I will use it in my G8GT also. Why? Here's the story that change my mind.

I race with a guy who runs a 700+hp small-block Chevy in a GT1 prepared Corvette (he's a lot faster than me, btw). In this particular race, he was swapping 1st place with a Porsche GT3 that usually beat him. With 3 laps to go, he notices that his oil pressure is fluctuating. At 2 laps, it drops to zero. So, he's got a decision. Keep racing, risk blowing the motor, and perhaps win the race - or play it safe, come to the pits, save the motor, and lose the race.

He decided to stay out. He ran for 2 laps with no oil pressure in a small-block Chevy making 700+hp, revving up to 8000rpm. The motor survived! Then, he comes to the pits and drives the car up onto the trailer.

Now comes the amazing part. When he gets the car back to the shop, the motor starts up and he's able to pull it off the trailer!! It didn't seize, it didn't melt anything.

When they tore the motor down, they noticed that several of the pistons had started to melt, the connecting rods were an odd shade of purple and orange, and that the valves were all but dead.

But, the oil was good enough to save that engine through 2 laps of hard racing, plus a restart the next day.

That's good enough for me.

I have witnessed the same thing in a Vortech supercharged 306 mustang. It twisted the oil pump shaft on the burnout and made a 9sec pass, loaded it on trailer, new shaft and pump and ran 3 more races with it before rebuilding.

RP is REAL synthetic and not what everyone thinks is synthetic.

Don't get me wrong though... Mobil 1 is some good stuff!

Another great oil is Shell Rotella T 5W40 synthetic. :brock:

Royal Purple is NOW sold at Auto Zone which is nice. I've run the RP Max Cycle in my bike a couple of times but switched to the Rotella for cost reasons. I only put 1-2000 miles on an oil change before winter.

I changed my oil for the first time by myself last Sunday. I had a freebie at the dealer at 1k so this one was @ 4.4K. I was surprised on how far out the oil shot to the side. It seemed as though it started at about 18" from the drain spout. I ended up making quite the mess since the container only had about an 8” opening. At little Dawn and a power sprayer cleaned things up though. I have a little less than 9 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-30 and a brand new WIX filter.

Sorry about the hi-jack.

Wal-Mart has Mobil 1 5 quart jugs for a hair under $24 in my neck of the woods.

How much oil do these cars hold with an oil and filter change? And what's the prefered oil weight?

5W30 8.8 qts (go ahead and gulp, we all did lol) On this site there is a maintenance section that lists all the good filter #s and Pace has a killer package deal right now too.
