Yep, mine is ordered. Just waiting for it to ship. I don't use my GPS because I hate taking it down everytime I stop the car. But with this, it will always be there, and turn on/off with the car, and I'll be able to have a bluetooth handsfree setup at all times even though it won't be going through the cars speakers.

What are the two options for the 2008s? There is little to no description on their site.

Put this in there and forget the 08 gauges.

The 2nd option includes a wiring harness with a 12V female cigarette adapter that has all the wires attached to a factory male plug that simply plugs into the unused 12V harness behind the radio.

Otherwise, you just need to buy a 12V cigarette adapter from Radio Shack or Auto Zone and plug into this harness with clips or by soldering directly to the harness. This is the route I'm going.

BTW the only difference between the 08 and 09 kits is a slightly different colour.

Thanks for the explanation. What Garmins fit? I have a 765. Any mention from them on when it ships?

I have a Garmin 760. The mounting bracket they made for it has a hole in the back for the USB plug, but my 760 which is probably similar to your 765, has the USB plug on the bottom. I will be modifying the bracket with a dremel or coming up with a custom bracket to mount my Garmin since I want to be able to use the existing bracket from the suction cup mount so I can route a microphone up near the headliner, and also a small remote speaker since the speaker will be sort of muffled being enclosed now.

I ordered last Friday, and they gave an estimate of 2 weeks at that time. So, will be 2 weeks this coming Friday. Hopefully their estimated time is correct.

I just don't get it. For what they charge for that thing, why not just do what I did and go with a nicer, bigger display?

I for one simply wanted to be able to use my GPS in my car, and since it has bluetooth and my car doesn't it also solves that problem. I didn't like using my GPS because I was constantly taking it on/off when driving. So, I quit using it, but then I couldn't use the bluetooth for handsfree calling. With this, for less than $370 shipped, I can integrate it into my car and solve my issues. It would be nice to have it run through the factory speakers, but is not necessary.

Your setup would be nice to have, but I have no urge to spend that much money to do what I need/want. Good luck with your sale. I'm sure someone will pick it up.

Thanks! I definitely understand wanting to use the GPS but wouldn't it be easier to just go to a car customizing shop and have them mold a dash piece like mine? I wouldn't think it would cost but 300 or so. I would do them for that matter but I doubt anyone would want so ship me their dash and gps. A while back, someone offered to make a mold of my dash so it can be reproduced, maybe I should investigate. If the GPS device used has a mute out it would be very easy to interface with the factory radio and the GPS could be snapped in/out from the front.

For me it was much more about the look. It looks very factory to me, which is why I ordered it. I may be disappointed when it is all said and done, but that was my reasoning. Some of the custom dashwork I've seen doesn't have that "stock" look that I like. It's not that it is bad, but it is different.

I've been looking for a good solution to cover my blinding Atari gauges. I actually like them except when it is dark out. Hopefully, this will be the solution.

i have an '09 and i'm waiting on the last trim pieces to start working on the flip cover ashtray and sloping trim kit, without the triple gages or nav screen. I'm going to have to cut apart the stock trim a bit to get it to work, but i'll post pics when i'm done.

if I fail at modifying my stock trim, i'll most likely go with this nav screen option. only reason i'm not doing it now is that i have a blackberry with navigation that does the trick for me.

so, we'll see what happens

If you want to do a mod like this, i recommend you talk to Crazy Paul before going to 'other' suppliers for quite obvious reasons ;) He is very helpful and tolerates noobish questions.

Very true on the look. This is also a known result, a custom install is hard to visualize until it's finished. FYI, if anyone is interested, I posted mine in the for sale section of this site as well. I like this solution, with these old eyes, I just needed something bigger and easier to read:wacko:

How do you physically separate the ac vents from the rear of the dash to fit on the new cover? Are they moveable from behind?

will not work in our cars. it a hardware issue or an integration issue? Thanks.

now THAT is BADASS! if only they shipped the damn thing like that from the factory... my roommate's 09' 45th Mustang GT has a navigation touch-screen... everyone that gets a ride in my G8 asks me that question, and I have to try and explain to them why it isn't but controls everything else... lol.

I'm in love with the fact that it looks like a complete OE fit.

I don't have the exact answer, but it has been covered on the "other" forum. My understanding is if you replaced the head unit with this, ours do not have the "nav" button, so there is no way to access it. Also onstar would not work, bluetooth (if equipped) would also not work.

I would be concerned with reception issues. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a portable nav. It does look nice.

I get full bars on my Garmin 760 installed in the dash.

If you need a portable GPS, just buy another one. They are dirt cheap now. Or, just sign up for a free checking account at Key Bank and they will give you one for free! Better than a free toaster.

Mostly because (according to NoLimit) the G8 HU doesn't have the RGB inputs necessary.

One of the options for the 2008 G8 GT JHP lists there is adding a PNP wire? What is that and what does it do?

There is an unused power plug inside the dash and I'm guessing this plugs in there to give you another cig. adapter port for the GPS power.

The smoker's package comes with a new and different 12v adapter. You can use the new 12v and your old 12v, so no need for the PNP wire. They both do not require splicing either. That gives you 2 in the front, one in the console and 1 in the rear. All the pigtails are there.

The smoker's cubby also lights up on both.
